I have a feeling it isn't Glasgow (unless, by "oversized scenery", she means tenement blocks). But cities are the same whereever you go, the only difference is image. What makes me laugh is when Scots bang on about independence, as if as a people they are crucial to us but would be better off without the English cramping their style. For god's sake Stephen, I'm as scottish as you are (born Stirling, lived Glasgow and Edinburgh at various points) but evidently my sense of humour developed south of the border. Chill out man. And yes, I have eaten a deep fried mars bar. It made me feel sick for 3 days but I'm proud to say I've done it.

My Mum's Scottish and I spent every summer of my youth there and a fair bit of other time besides. I love it. Shame about the rugby but otherwise it's an AOK place. Just go fish and enjoy, enjoy, enjoy!

Corby where i live is known as 'Little Scotland,' because the Steelworks here attracted a lot of Scots down here when it opened.

I went to Edinburgh a few times and it was one of the most beautiful cities I have ever visited. It was marvellous. Then went up to Thurso and the Orkneys. In my opinion the Scots have got everything they need in their country. But I've always been a sucker for big skies and wild lashing waves. I wish I lived there.

I've lived in England for most of my adult life and most of my friends are English see capital E not an ickle e. I am profoundly patriotic, as most people are when they live elsewhere. Go try and live in another country and see how happy you are when you go back 'home'. As most of the old timers already know I come from Musselburgh near Edinburgh and it THE most beautiful place I know, remember Edinburgh is THE place to be on New Year's Eve.........not London. For the record as far as I know no Scots person has ever eaten a fried Mars bar. Haggis Yes Mars bar NEVER. I'm of for a heavy or twa wi ma wee Scottish pals. Cafe Dag, Crown Street, Aberdeen, if anyone fancies a nip. Edinburgh is one of the world's great cities. No city in Britain has such dramatic views. There is an exuberant driechness to the place that makes romantics fall in love with it. As for the Scots.... They're just like Londoners, except they're friendly and have a sense of humour. [%sig%]

my opinion is based more upon having lived in Wales for more than 30 odd years - that is living in Simon Glyn land - the land of Welsh extremists - and knowing how per centages can be played with to suit purposes ! Also having studied a wee bit of the issues involved too - helps - the slimness of the vote matters little to the actions and beliefs of those extermists !
