Yes yes Nobs Off, or Stormy - si c'est lui - I was aware most of the forum readership "guessed" it was me, considering I made no attempt to hide my identity, what with using my cache and zen tags, talking about Karen & being a teacher, answering to the the name "Paul", and other really tough clues. I only confirmed so as not to confuse the less au fait Stephen further, who seemed less than absolutely certain that Wez was me, let alone Jack. But give yourself a good pat on the back for "sussing" me, you're one in a million. You, sir, are a fool and a rogue, and I demand satisfaction of you.

besides political apparthy is hardly the basis to argue a lack of confidence or lack of pride in their nationality ! You only have to go so far as look at the aspects of ligustics and self cultural referencing to see how weak that argument is !

English is the language of air and sea worldwide. The message flung into space on some probe or other (I forget which one) said "we are from the planet earth and we greet you in our language" (English). Almost ALL comms on the net are in English. 75% of all emails sent and received are written in English. I believe Welsh is spoken in two fish and chip shops in Swansea, and thats about it isnt it?

"Who the fucks wezley, its obviousley greeso or the clown prince himself..." This is why I used the phrase "less than absolutely certain". And I didn't want you to be less than certain when I came on as "Jack". Anyway, I wasn't having a go at YOU so chill!

You know on a recent visit to Hanley, Stoke on trent I pointed out to a Welsh friend (I see myself as British by the way) the number of Welsh lingistic imprints - he was amazed - you see English, Welsh, Scottish and Irish have always mixed - its just those who choose to see what they wish to see and not what is truly there ! The numbers of Welsh speakers have and are raising and it is a language that has travelled as far as English just in smaller numbers - that don't make it a dying language just a minority one !

Just got in from a "swift pint" after work and for my sins checked this nonsense. Stop the "I'm from here" madness. Doesn't mean a damn thing at the end of the day. Take people for what they are, what they say, the rest is baggage and bad fashion. Some of the Scots write wonderfully, and Kelman, Alasdair Grey et al would be embarrassed about this kind of skewed nationalism. Their argument is language, my friend, which we southerners warped and demeaned with the heat of power. Okay. Good. Bad...That was fodder for their political beliefs and hooks for hungry imaginations. Those boys don't go in for generalisations about religion and guilt and all that nonsense. They talk about people, and don't pigeon hole those they don't know -complete strangers- into a person they imagine exists. Their argument is bigger than fences, caricatures, it's people - they write about what they know - which takes a bit of doing, and those boys rose to the challenge. They have guts, and discipline. This is from a - coughs - shivers - ....southerner.... Anyone who romanticses the cult of suffering, especially in an "artist", is missing the point. Badly. That's hollywood. Nonsense. Realise I've written a madly long e-mail. Gulps. Reaches for wine. Logs off. [%sig%]

I think you should go Fish just to try a dessert called 'Cranikin,' or something like that. A tall glass with whipped cream strawberries or summer fruit custard, oatmeal and i believe Whiskey. Mind you, you could just get the recipe off the net and make it here.

Pioden - I'm telling you that that is my observation. I didn't say it was right. I didn't say you had to agree with it. That's how I feel about it. I respect the fact that you feel differently. Don't get so worked up. Why are you so aggressively defending a whole nation? All I said was I haven't seen much pride or confidence about national identity in England and Wales. I have seen more in Scotland and Scottish people. I was making a comparison that was based on what *I* as a person have seen/witnessed. I was not slagging off Welsh people. Why did you turn this thread into a nationalistic argument? And as for this remark: "Jeff I wouldn't say that near a Welsh person if I was you !" Why not? Would a Welsh person (you are generalising all Welsh people and saying that they share your views on this, btw) not have the open-mindedness to accept that another person might have a different opinion to theirs?

buy a duffle coat and some thermal socks. Just to add more torment to my earlier smoking comment I'm just reminding me that I usually end up in sunny California for conferences, drinking strawberry daquari's by the pool in the Hilton all on the company's exense. say you're allergic to scotsmen and you can't attend on medical grounds if it's Glasgow. Go if it's Edinburgh, Dundee or anywhere begining with Dun...
