Strange Bedfellows

Strange bed fellows.

It occurred to me today whilst reading another anonymous abusive remark about myself that there is a hard core of forum posters here that keep the Gen Dis alive. Among these are the majority of those seen as either trouble-makers or idiots by those that see themselves as neither. There is of course, a healthy contingent of level-headed, calm and infuriatingly inexcitable automatons that give some balance to the mayhem that frequently breaks out. The minority (for they are) who attract the majority of abuse are, I feel, an invaluable antidote to the terminal boredom that sets in when there is nothing but talk of lemmingade and underwear. We should feel proud of the fact that whatever transpires in the threads we welcome all comers and points of view.

That said, I'd still like to kick the s.hit out of dicko. The following is my list of friend and foe that I think make the Gen Dis the best place to be on an otherwise boring evening.

Justyn for being so bloody reasonable (most of the time)

Jude getting a group of oldies banned from a pub

Rachel being cheeky

Karl being the last to leave the pub and always pissed

Vicky a loyal and true friend

Stormy similar reasons to Karl and also being a funny bugger

Lesley admitting to living in Wales

Dicko giving me a good reason to feel superior

Choose choosing

Steve growing tulips

Tanya being an oddball

AJ being possibly the most honest person I've ever met

Henstoat umm..there MUST be something, oh yeah for losing his temper and proving he's no different to the rest of us

Andrew being one of the most tolerant people on the site

Fishy being a sport and showing us all her new black bra

David another voice of common sense

Mykle proving that village idiots are not extinct

Tony putting up with everyone and rarely waving a stick at anyone

Emma another cheeky sod

Ralph behaving himself for the last two months

Liana being a mate

Kath bringing some mature wisdom and double spacing to the site

Ely avoiding work for longer than anyone on the site except SD

Sadbelle not boring the a.rse off us all with footbawl threads lately

MYB for reminding me why I'm an atheist

Neil having the decency to sacrifice himself to a bank

Stephy being unemployed for longer than anyone can remember yet still having the dosh to go to the pub

Jeff mostly sensible and never abusive

Flashy being an idiot

Purple joining in

Tim proving there is some sanity in Norwich

This may appear to be a long list but when you think there are over 10,000 mambers it's a tiny percentage. With out these people the forum would die on it's arse.
I've almost certainly left some out I know, you can add your own.

Thanks George, I'm largely sensible although although after a few drinks tonight I fear I will be insensible. It's been pretty cold in Derby today. A right chill. But would you believe the air-con is broken at work and set to "chilly"? How ironic. And I can't get the radiators to work in my new house. Do you just turn the knobs at the side or what?
Sheffield Troll
Anonymous's picture
lol make sure the heating is on Jeff! Then try adjusting the radiators. Failing that ask someone for a cuddle.

I've turned the knobs this morning Sheff (can I call you Sheff?) and I have got both fingers crossed for tonight.
Sheff

Forget crossing fingers, Jeff, just bring someone warm back from the pub.
Jeff Prince
Anonymous's picture
Yes, that's a grand idea, Sheff.

Just to amuse you Jeff, when I was writing one of my short stories, I was thinking up a name for a character and because I'd just been talking to you on the forum, hey presto, yours was the name that I chose!! But perhaps now I should change it to Sheff?!!

1,000 words liana? That was primary school wasn't it? Your account is scarily similar to mine (minus the kids bookcase) though I always include a full nights sleep the day before the day before it's due in cause I know it'll be an allnighter to get it done in time for thed deadline. I also buy coffee and red bulls pluss lots of fags the day before the day before in preparation. Yawn.... red bull's in fridge as we speak :) I predict a low 2:1 for myself

There are a few posters missing in action that I really liked: the ever popular funky seagull, of course, and JohnL, a very clever character indeed. Oh, yes, and Tom Saunders for sure, though he is not exactly missing; just transported to a parallel dimension.

Thanks Sheff. I think all the characters in your story should end in -eff. What do you think? Could be original? =o~

I like both Hen and Missi, having actually met them both. But there again I like Al Stewart and I like the Distillers. I like cheap doner kebabs and posh chinese banquets. I like both India and Germany. Tastes don't always quite meet in the middle.

I like Hen and Mississippi too... although sometimes against my better judgement. In reality, people are often VERY different. I met one person at an ABC do that I used to really admire, and now i just think that person is an arrogant pillock without one iota of social grace. It just goes to show eh?

Hmmmmm. Wonder who that could be. I guess I am the real oddball around here... defying any type of classification.

Well, being described as 'reasonable (most of the time)' is a considerable step up from the way I am usually described, at least by one former acquaintance, namely as an 'arrogant pr.ick' (according to him 'everyone' thinks that of me) and a 'nutcase.' Considering the source, I should probably feel flattered. I don't think he's ever looked at this site. Too busy trying to balance his check book.

I'd add: edgy giblets: for superb writing and making me laugh in the forum so much that at times it hurts. bert: rarely seen nowadays (never will be again now that fish has fin agled him) but always incisive and with deadly wit. iceman: for his diaries and making me laugh in the forum so much (and in real life on one occasion) that it still hurts. Also for trying to be devious and failing eh greco 2000? spag: "slat (sic) tears roll down my face now emily has put me on the front page." Yeah, she got mixed up when printing WANTED posters Wolfgirl: What can I say? Lovely, kind, encouraging, a great talent and gorgeous to boot. Britgrrl: Sorry we fell out over the uka thread. I'll probably apologise soon. Bright, encouraging and witty, when she leaves it's the loss of the forum. Mark Brown: for looking pissed when drinking water Hox: Smashing bloke Tony Cook: for being balder than Hox Gardiner: shirts and to all the terrific writers that left the site due to thread gloopsters: you are missed eg Tom Saunders

Am going to have to stop being so reasonable, then I can have more fun. I do like an argument, and have very strong opinions, I just never believe that mine are necessarily the only correct ones. I've been wrong about truckloads in my time.
