Sorry Em, I was at home trying to sort out the heating. I pressed some buttons. And cleared out the shed too. A fruitful evening. I've only got Internet access at the uni where I'm doing a part time course (trying to finish it - two assignments in by June 9th) and at the gym.

I'm doing the second year of Cert Ed (for teaching adults). Can see the end in sight now. Just need to actually *do* the assignments and all will be well!

I'd say purps for being deep and meaningful and dead positive about life. fish for dropping in with irresistable threads then disappearing to watch us all make idiots of ourselves. (well, I suppose I mean me really, if I'm honest), and having a sexy profile pic. Gardiner for his excellent French. Andrew for having a sexy and commanding presence, and reminding me to be good (by popping up on a thread when I was about to say something stupid). Missi for teaching us all to lie comfortably on a bed of nails. Vicky for being so sane and moving in her stuff. Liana for not buggering off completely. Hen for having a fascinating profile pic. Lesley for being dyslexic and making me laugh. John for being really human and v. interesting. lleg for being so goddam intelligent and reasoned. Stuart for being so pleasant and friendly and a great observer of life. Tony and Mark for sneezing all over the forums. Green and Black's organic chocolate for being a great forum pal. Freeserve's chatrooms for being an even naughtier alternative when no-one's on the forums (hehehe). Earl Grey for going so well with organic chocolate. Jeff for reminding us what the weather's doing. Sandi Toksvig for having those eyes and that wit (priorities absolutely right there). If I type her name often enough on the forums do you think she might find us through google, join in, and let me chat her up? I'd better stop there before I deteriorate even more.

Ah, thanks purps, you seem to be the sort of person I should have been if things hadn't been the way they were. Now that's a convoluted way of saying, I admire your spirit and your writing and envy what you seem to get up to. I must carry on with your island stuff... I'm furiously hacking away at words at the moment but can't get it right somehow. Pissed off with self.

You're chances are very good Vicky. The less words you have to play with, the harder it is to write an essay. You're subject is very broad so plenty of things for you to chose from. A 5000 W Essay should take about 1 hr scribbling down you're thoughts without trying to structure them to much, bit of brain storming hear, about 30 min deciding on some structure and 2/3 hrs writing and Editing the Essay. Get you're mind on it now and you will be done by tomorrow. P.S, Make sure you hand in something, regardless of how good it is. Signd. You're Head Master.

"The less words you have to play with, the harder it is to write an essay." yeah right. My sympathies Vick. I have two essays due on Weds, a report on the 12th and a final exam on the 13th. I had hoped the newly painted violet office would help, but alas not.

I've just realised the entire morning has disappeared, it's an hour till fetching kids time, I haven't eaten anything except organic chocalate and I haven't done any washing up since yesterday. heeeeelp

Its true! The less words, the more precise and selective you have to be in word usage. Hences why many people find writing short story's hard.

John I always ALWAYS go over the word limit.....i HATE word limits Also.... are you nuts???? "A 5000 W Essay should take about 1 hr scribbling down you're thoughts without trying to structure them to much, bit of brain storming hear, about 30 min deciding on some structure and 2/3 hrs writing and Editing the Essay. Get you're mind on it now and you will be done by tomorrow." Try 6 hrs research in library, 1hrs photocopying (if I'm lucky) 3 hrs research on net, 2/3 hrs writing (okay I'll give you that one) 2 hours laboriously finding appropriate quotes and referencing them correctly 1 hr writing Bibiography, adding page word counts, id no etc, 1 hr reread, 1 hr edit 1 hr making coffee (in total) two hours stopping for fag breaks (in total) All essays are bastards to do.... why oh why do I always wait untilk the last moment? Mind you can't be arsed to do it today so It'll have to wait until tmrw.

Commanding you say? Oh, I like these new girls... And while I'm on, I too think that Ralph deserves some recognition for his approach over last month or so. Am I one of the few people around who likes the heck out of Hen AND Mississippi?

We stayed in a proper posh hotel in Spain last summer that had a pillow menu - 15 different choices. Was far too posh for us though, we got right royal drunk and daisy threw up in the swimming pool.

15 different kinds of pillow ! why has Andrew got all the pillows? its ages since I had a pillow fight ....

Mmm, pillow menu. Did they have an on-top-of-pillow mint menu too? I favour the Bendicks, personally. Though I would kill (or at least maim) for a hotel that set those individually wrapped Toblerone segments on top of the pillow.

Hey Emma... you're gonna start romours girl... you might want to specify where I moved my stuff into..... Andrew... no you're not the only one. I was pissed at Hen ages ago when I though he was being mean and as a friend of Jackie's I don't like it when he tells her to die (who would?) But generally I think he's pretty cool and obviously everyone knows what I think of George. Incidentally thanks for that babe.

No, there was no choc menu although there was an "Emperors Breakfast" costing Euro 250 but we povved it in the plebs breakfast room instead(Tom Cruise and his missus were there the week before us). The other weekend in Brugges we had super chocs on pillow at night.

yes, three kids vicky... though they are very understanding, bless 'em. john, it is not true... i can write a 1000 word essay (ha, remember those days Vicky?) in less than an hour, but a 5000 word one takes me days. Here is how I do it Vicky, don't know about you. Lecturer hands over assignment in January. Liana glances at it, reads it, doesn't understand the question, panics, re reads it, still doesnt understand the question. Wonders idf she is in the right classroom. Panics more, stuffs it inside whichever A4 pad she has taken to seminar that day. Thinks about it on and off with mild unease for a couple of months. Realises she now can't actually remember the question, asks a fellow student who has also lost the assignment. Finds out from the swot that it isnt due for another month and a half anyway (though of course swot has done it already), and forgets all about it and goes for a beer at the union bar. Goes home, full of good intent and immediately forgets to look for assignment. Watches Eastenders and then stuffs all paperwork into generic "wtf is all this??" folder. Liana gets reminded by tutor in last weeks seminar that assignment is due next week and will make up 30% of mark this year. Hrmmm, next Wednesday, thinks Liana. Pah. I'll do it on Sunday. Easy. On Saturday, Liana paints the office. Has panic attack and looks for assignment again. Generic folder is finally ran to ground on no. 2 daughters bookshelf. Assignment is not in it. Goes to bed with Feminist Criticism of the 18th Century. Falls asleep in 3 seconds (understandably) Sunday. Paints woodwork, buys new bin and sorts out make up. Watches "Finding Nemo". Polishes PC and arranges pens. Sorts out paper for printer. Polishes printer. Drinks Tea. Watches Heartbeat. Browses Ebay. Panics.

I've just been reading purple's Gardening diaries, this is now getting a bit wierd, I mean, I just planted out my veg at the week-end, purple, are you sure you're not communicating with us from a parallel universe where you are my mirror-image? hehehe
John

Yes Liana. But thats about quantity not Quality. Seriously, many people have grate difficulty in writing a 1000 or 2000 word Essay, at a high standers. Some people, like you're self and thankfully me to, can do this with Essays, but i have met far more people in various University's who have trouble writing technical essays with a 2000 word limit.
