Scars...

I have one on my ring finger left hand (covered by wedding ring) where daisy branded me with a match on the first day we ever met, one in cleavage (showing off with cigarette) and one on right er.. hip from motorbike accident (fell off and bounced luckily). You...?

one interesting thing that i have got. I was at the dentist when i was staying in st andrews and the dentist was taking xrays for my tooth to come out and he looked at me quite astonished and said do you know you have dislocated jaw and i looked back at him and said have i. I think when i was about twenty i had a fight well i got a jumped while drunk and it was from that, but to this day i have nor went to see about it and i have never felt any sort of pain from it. *wheres mulder, or preferably scully *blushes**

liana? you got stuck by your chin on the mantle piece? both my hands and forearms are mainly scar tissue from various years of working with glasses, bottles, bricks and idiots. right thumb was bitten almost off by a rabbit in a petting zoo, age: 6 months (me, not the rabbit) back of right hand long burn scar from a lovely lady putting a ciggie out on me as I walked past carrying about fifty empties similar burn scar on left ring finger knuckle where I was passed a large joint in a dark corridor. The glowing end stuck but the rest fell away, I spent about three minutes trying to grab a non existant spliff in the dark burst appendix scar, now crossed by another from the removal of the stitches nearly three years later scar down length of left little finger where I tried to contain someone in a chest freezer during an altrication (I know it's dangerous but so was he) and he kicked out from under the closing lid and took all the skin off with his heel right upper arm where i dived through a food serving hatch to assist someone and caught a tiny nail sticking out of the frame finally Sarah has the best scar, its on her knee and she got it playing hockey on a tarmac pitch, it's exactly the same shape as the Adidas logo (the new triangular one, not the three leaves) and it's still filled in black from the tarmac.

i have lots of alcohol related scars, woops i think i should be more careful of not drink as much. mind you thinkin about it i havnt hurt myself badly in a wile. i popped my middle finger on my right hand by fallin up a stage step with two bottles in my hand. it was great i was all most passing out in the loo with my hand in the sink with the blood just drippin off it. peoples faces were the best thing about it and hearing them just come in go woo woo yuk then walk past me. i fell down the stair in my old union bar and cut my hand open and some glass and ended up goin to the hospital the next day coz that side of my hand went completly numb ( i had and x-ray and they said i had glass still in there but there was no point goin in to get it. come back its is goes numb again.... thanks for that.) chickenpox related on under my left boob. one on my right wrist i have no idea what its off i have had it for as long as i can remember and no one in the family knows whats its off ether. quite a few on the top of both legs. and long one on my right shin form fallin over in pe at school. i long one on my right sholder from my friend climin over me in a pub and diggin her nails in my back, i think i also have one on my knee form her when she got very very drunk she would freak out and sometimes run off. this time no one ran after her. so i did.... in heals... and a dress... the fell with such a clatter, couldnt bend my knee for months. i think thats about it for me, but iam sure i do have more.

I'm a little concerned that the majority of scars mentioned to date seem to stem from some sort of fabulous (or scary) childhood/adolesenent escapade, whereas mine seem to be all when I was (meant to be) grown up... One finger dropped beer glass on working in pub (still no feeling)(17 years ago) One finger sliced when chopping dough for our friends at Pizza Hut(19 years ago) Scar on base of thumb from using Stanley knife on vinyl tiles and not cutting away from myself (that really hurt). Still have a few through hormones and women (a la Missi). They don't heal so good.

My worst scar is from having spent 10 years of my life trying to help a mentally ill person get their act together. Everything else pales in comparison.

i have a good one on my forehead from when my brother's girlfriend Runaway Sue drove into the back of an Austin Allegro on the way to rounders ... i was 13 and jonny fowler had just asked me out and i ruined a beautiful relationship by flying into the windscreen and having 31 stitches ... i have a small scar on my collarbone from running and falling over whilst holding a pointy stick on a family holiday to ibiza or somewhere when i was 6 ... my most impressive scars tho are on my left ankle and up the outside of my lower calf where i fell down the steps of the post office after an old lady barged past me ... it was a really nasty fall and i broke some bones into many pieces and had to have pins and plates and all sorts ... i like scars ...

Right, let's think. In chronological order: Forhead. Hit by soot-encrusted bricks and blocks while taking a chimney breast out, aged 16. The soot caused an infection to the wound so it didn't heal properly. Right elbow. Pushed it through a pub window some time around the late seventies, early eighties. Nine stitches in the back of my head through protecting a black girl called called Millie from a bunch of bikers. This was in Bridgeport, Connecticut. It was in a garage and one of them picked me up and dropped me on my head on one of those star-shaped things you drive cars onto to raise them in the air. The only fight I've ever lost, but it turned out he was a judo brown belt. Bit of a tasty one across my left shoulder where they stuck a pin in me to stop me dislocating my shoulder all the time. And the last ones can only be seen in strong sunlight, but they're across my right hand. I was snorkling between some rocks in Portugal, the sea was rough and I got thrown against the rocks. I could see the blood coming out of my hand through my mask underwater. Well, at least we should all recognise one another at the next ABCtales event. (Liana, you really got stuck by your chin on the mantlepiece?)

Oh, and my buddy, Tony Boston, who got knifed in the face while driving a cab. Great scar that. Well worth a mention. (You can read all about it in the book).

I have another UBI to add to the list...at the weekend I had a wee bit too much to drink don't remember the fall but on sunday I had a egg shaped lump on my forehead which I think my cousin managed to pick all the bits of glass out of. Gone down to the size of a lychee or perhaps a grape now. I'm on the wagon for a while!!! jude

I boxed when I was very young and light Karl - I had to move to tae kwon do when I went up to eleven stone, because I couldn't hit people hard enough at boxing, but tae kwon do was still more about technique and guile rather than power. Miss the hell out of both of them. Congrats on the book, by the way. I was reading Steinbeck's Sweet Thursday last night, with a huge grin on my face, and it reminded me of you.

I tend to sympathise with George on this one. I got married in the firm belief that you just found a woman you fancied, and who fancied you, and that was all you could expect out of life. It failed, but maybe it was because I couldn't provide what was needed - but at least we had a son. She tried several other men but she now lives on her own. That hurt, but, later, I met the girl of my dreams, who taught me about true love and who I would gladly have died for, but, after several attempts, could not truly satisfy - only God knows why - but I don't regret a single minute. Kriss Kristofferson wrote "I'd swap all my tomorows for a single yesterday" and I can sympathise for they were magical days. I've had several sumptious, sexy and sensational, women since but 'the first cut is the deepest' and leaves you with the most significant scar. I have to say I don't really regret a moment of any of these relationships and only wish I'd been wiser and more loving, because they were all beautiful in their own way and the only real scar is that of regret! Love to you all, my beauties, Mike.

one on right thumb from washing up when a food processor blade was hiding at the bottom of the bowl (there's a lesson girls, don't wash up) one on right third finger from taking a pizza out of the oven (another lesson - don't cook either) one on left ankle from slipping and rolling down a concrete slope at the outdoor swimming pool (...don't exercise) one underneath chin from stretching up to see what was on the mantelpiece and getting stuck (...don't be nosy) one on my right shin from slipping and grazing it badly on the stone fire surround (it was the seventies ok?) that i was stood on so I could reach my dads 8-track player. I wanted to put a Rubettes tape in. Thats the biggest lesson of all, and i dont need to spell it out.

I've got no scars, never had a stitch, never had a fracture. Boxed for four years and never got a black eye (despite the fact that I had a Chris Eubank/Naseem Hamed approach to guarding - kept my hands low with a view to throwing punches from odd angles and just used sways and footwork to avoid getting hit). Never got put down either... Am I the only person on this forum who is still intact?

*coughs* I have quite a few around my bod especially around my left and right arm and left leg, oh and four on my face....i counted them last year *sounds pure pyscoish, but it aint* cause when you meet me you realise i am not. but anyway when i got caught up in the self harm crap well over the two three year period i put over 286 scars on my body and face. the ones on my face whern't to bad apart from one which has also faeded a lot but on eof my arms needs covered which i am getting done next year... i wa sina police station once and they said 'mr stephen have you got any scars..i laughed and went, "eh yeah mate 284 and he said oh stop kidding me on son and i said 'dya think so and showed him..... *sounds more pyscoish than it actually is* and thats what one of charities works about destignifying self harm. Got this one here from a Tiger Shark... We had just come back from delivering the bomb, you know, the Hiroshima bomb. 2000 went into the water, 300 came out. Sometimes the sharks, they'd go away, sometimes they wouldn't. They'd just circle about, them sharks, those cold hollow eyes.

MMmm I'm relatively unscarred too. I have an 8 inch Appendix scar but it was done so well (17 years ago) that you can barely see it... it's even below the bikini line which is helpful. Other than that I've never broken anything important bone wise that I know of...or really damaged myself particularly (externally anyway) Oh... I DO have lots of ickle scars on the backs of my hands that you can only see in certain lights.... they are half - moon shaped and made by teenage girls fingernails.... I was always the stubborn one who wouldn't admit it hurt like hell

Chin: Large bobbly one from running down hill with hands in dufflecoat pockets. Seemed clever, but in the 10 metres it took to come to a horizontal stop, less so. Waist: Chicken Pox, where elasticated waistband of trousers went. No chicken pox anywhere else apart from that. Being painted purple with calomine lotion must have worked. Right eyebrow: One inch cut. Incident involved hash cakes, a student halls of residence kitchen, an ambulance and an experience akin to lacing up a football. Knuckles: Various white flecky scars. Caused by uncovered brickwork in school stairwells, believe it or not. Third Finger Right Hand: One Inch V shaped scar, caused by shattering pint glass in washing up. Had to walk down to the hospital with hand gushing with blood, a good half and hours walk. Rang partner up from hospital to sy that my hand was gushing with blood and I might need stitches. Partner said there was some good things on the telly that night and she'd see me when I got back. Right ankle: Loads of scars which itch when it's about to thunder That about covers it I think.

My stomach looks like the Rose Window at York Minster (after the lightning strike of '84). Stretch marks radiating from what once could be described as a belly button. Scar on back from a boil my mother poulticed when I was about 11. Chicken pocks scar exactly where the Hindus put their magenta splodges. Scar from being cut deliberately to see how long I would bleed, a hospital testing process that discovered I was a slow clot - yes it's official. That's all. Why, anyone considering giving me one?
