why the cherry?

A recent poem I posted has just been "cherried"

http://www.abctales.com/abcplex/viewstory.cgi?s=14614

and I really have to ask ... why?

In my opinion is it weak if not bad, and was put up mainly because I haven't posted anything for ages and felt I should at least try.

In another thread I said something about cherries being subjective and I think this proves it.

Any answers to this riddle would be appreciated.

Why the cherry indeed? I prefere grapes myself. I guess we should be grapeful (Okay, bad joke). There are, after all, many starving people out there. Just be thankful Mark that you are not one of them! It's this kind of attitude that really riles me. Shame on you all. Sprout Technique.

I agree with cherries being really subjective. I wrote two stories that got cherry picked. One was okay and the other one boring. My third story, which was much better then the other two got ignored and thus never read- bugger.

I don't want to imply anything about YOUR judgement Mark, but a similar thing happened to me with one of my postings. I thought it was weak, certainly not one of the best things I've ever written, but it got a cherry, story of the day and solicited several praiseful emails (is praiseful a word? Sorry, I'm a little drunk!). Also several people in my writing group said they liked it a lot. Sometimes something you feel is crap can be very good - in my case, I think my mood at the time of writing contributed to my attitude towards the piece. I say, kick back, have a beer, and enjoy the cherry!

Ah well, you see I have this compulsion to know, to understand, what people see. Personally I would like a detailed description of everything the goes on when a poem moves someone, to love or hate it. I guess I am just odd that way.

mark, ANY poem that includes the word crunchy deserves a cherry

don't tempt me - I can see a whole set evolving simply titled Crunchy with poems A) crunchy, B) crunchy, C) crunchy (etc)

For me Mark it starts off very well - tails a little towards the end, but I like the assembling of ingredients. This isn't one that I cherried, but I probably would have. I'm always talking about poetry of the small, real moments in life and this is a good example.

well, I hate to tell you this, but it's mostly snatches of conversation from the TV programme Ready, Steady, Cook with a few additions of my own.

I do try to do this when I cherry, but it was a lot easier when we were getting 15-20 stories a day. If something really dazzles me, I do send the message. (And sampling is not necessarily a bad thing, many writers and artists have done it. Mark had to pick out the words and phrases that he felt would work and assemble them in the right order. ) Editor 73 is Tess. You can always be the first person to email Emily and request the removal of cherry (though Myckle just did it indirectly with Blarney - I respected his wishes and didn't recherry it, though I did think it was very worthy.)

Well I suppose one question I'd like answered is, why has this been cherried and "I Dare You" hasn't - Whenever people talk to me about my poetry they always mention this poem. I'm not saying it necessarily deserves one, there are others I like much more that have none either, but the question still stands, why one over the other. It's not that I object to the cherry, I just don't understand it, and until I do I suppose I will never be a good writer. Mark.
