I suppose that a) I agree, because if it came on now I would be angry. but b) I disagree, because if it came on in a bar when I was with someone who hadn't heard it before, then their reaction would make me smile.
That's not the same as liking it, is it?
If it came on now I would be more than mardy, because I am currently listening to allegri's misere mei for the tenth time on repeat (kids are chuffed). I think I prefer Joe Dolce to that Shatner thing... but I suppose I am biased because I also want to kick the TV in when I see him going "yoe-gurty?" on that advert.
Horrible, smarmy, plasticy, bewigged, round table - lions club type man. Go away.
We'll have to disagree.
We laugh at Shatner whenever he appears in anything. Habit I suppose.
I love that Allegri piece. It was one of the first solos I ever sung and we sang it at my dad's funeral too.
Well I've listened to the Shatner album twice today out of choice and I like it.
Tomorrow Never Knows by Our Lady Peace is rubbish though.
but Letter To Cleo cover of Dangerous Type (by the Cars) on the same record (Craft Soundtrack) is ace.
Common People by William Shatner is fantastic. Other covers I like are Always on my Mind by the Pet Shop Boys and Nirvana's The Man who Stole The World.
The worst are any rock covers of Mrs Robinson, and the version of The Smiths How Soon is Now that I keep hearing.

Yeah, as is often the way. Never buy an album because you like one song. - I haven't bought an album for about a year due to cash flow. As soon as I'm minted I will buy the latest Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds one, which I haven't even heard yet, but am sure is magnificent.
I'm sure I will.
The best gig I ever saw in my life was them at Brixton a few years back.
really sublime and moving and exhillarating.
God, I sound like a right w*nker now.
Ooh, I might have been there. Nick Cave gigs are always good.
I'm off to see Einsturzende Neubauten tonight (third mention in the forums today, and probably ever), head man of which (Blixa Bargeld) used to be a bad seed, and am as excited as a puppy fed on sunny delight.
Queens of the Stone Age have done a couple of Kinks covers, Who'll be the Next in Line and Everybody's Gonna be Happy; they're not so hot, but they also did a kickass cover of ZZTop's Precious and Grace with Billy Gibbons. Oh and Never Say Never by Romeo Void. All good. Mmmm.
Usually with early covers bands try too hard to imitate the original, but they really make the songs their own. All you illegal downloaders, I demand you sample.
Jimi Hendrix's version of Dylan's "All Along The Watchtower". Mindblowing - well, it was when I was 13 and still is.
Scissor Sisters "Comfortably Numb" impresses me too.
And Jeff Buckley's version of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah" is stunning - I've only just heard it recently, and was ... er, stunned.
Hey Ralph - I heard he'd recorded a version and posted it to the band... where can I hear it? I love Sleeper, love Senor Costello... he's appearing this year at Hay!
'futureheads - dont buy the album its poor poor poor. that track is great tho'
Ha! Liana, you loser... Your taste in music is usually very good, but your Cool Detector must be temporarily bust. I went to see them in Camden. The album is superb. It utterly kicks heiney.
hrmmm do you think so? Have only listened once, but the first three tracks really hacked me off. I was trying to write an essay at the time though, so may have been easily annoyed... going to see a band always joins you to them in some strange way I find. I'm currently in love with a Latvian band I saw in Belgrade a couple of months ago, and they send everyone else who listens to them in my cat, into a frenzy of hatred. I love them though, and I especially love singing along in a faux latvian accent. Actually, maybe thats what causes the frenzy.
