the first paragraph really caught my attention, it is a beautifully constructed piece with a great pace. I just felt a little deflated at the end - maybe it ends too soon?
what do others think?

Very very clean writing. I love your prose, Jon. Beautifully controlled. I take it this is the beginning of something or part of something? It does feel incomplete.

My comments kill threads! But it's OK to kill one about me.
It's kinda the middle of something, Joe. It goes in 'The Senses Mutiny', after the aliens but before the riverman and the zombies and the killer cowboy builder. It's immediately preceded by 'The Newspapers Were Full of These Things', which is itself preceded by a piece describing the journey to Nice in search of the scientist friend. I might upload that tomorrow, but it's a bit crap at the moment.
Look Jon - the thread is still alive!

Maybe my powers don't work on myself.... I'm sure I killed four or five of the last Discuss Writing threads I contributed to.
Threadicide paranoia - a common symptom of the anxiety-racked internet-friendly writer. See an online therapist.
