Hotel In Bangkok
I don't think I've read any poetry by Drew before, but very much enjoyed this. I can see why someone with Drew's eye would want to express how he feels on observing the behaviour of Americans in Thailand.
And room numbers are
Tortured out of smiling
chambermaids.
Brilliant!
oh my whata witto.... is j-ASS=purr=itto..... CHIRRRPPpppppppp....
Thanks Emma,
I don't write much poetry, only when I'm on holiday.

I prefer the Elephant poem. The elephant minders must surely be the world's greatest optimists--thinking they can make a living out of giving rides and selling bananas to tourists in the middle of one of the world's most congested cities. Of course, most of the urban elephants are small--as elephants go.
As for the Patpong market, you probably were ripped off a bit. That is a classic tourist trap. There are much better markets in Bangkok, though Patpong comes equipped with the katooey.
It's funny how we think that although we buy goods at very cheap prices in poor(er) countries that somehow we are being ripped off. Yet companies like McDonalds, Coke, Pepsi (who make billions of dollars) are somehow more culturally acceptable.
I'd rather be ripped off and my money go to a real person.
