Further transient bugs on www.abctales.com
[as opposed to on phorum.abctales.com, I mean]
The new web server has taken over duties for the site. Everyone who's still being pointed to the 'old' one by their local DNS servers is now receiving pages slightly more slowly as the results are 'proxied' across.
We've noticed there are are some issues with 'page not found' errors in some places and pages being delivered blank in others.
Both are caused by the move from a server which doesn't care about whether addresses are in upper- or lower-case, to one which cares about it very much indeed,
If you find a 'page not found' error, send an email to john@userfrenzy.com. PLEASE include the address which didn't arrive, else your email will be of no practical use :-)
Likewise, tell me what addresses if any are showing blank pages, please.
With a little help from the users we can get them all fixed more quickly than if I have to hunt through 450+ scripts on my own...

myabcs.cgi is failing to pick up the text entered by the user from the boxes on the login screen, the page then refreshes returning the suer to the Front Page still not logged in.

Iceman: thanks for the tips, I'll get on them now. Red Hat Linux 7, perl 5.6.1, Apache 1.3.26, MySQL 3.23.51 and php 4.2.1, since you asked, all hosted on a 10Mbps connection in Leeds.

...have both reported problems regarding their ability to stay logged in between pages.
They're looking at the old server because their ISPs haven't received our updates yet.
They (and you, if you're suffering the same problems) can experience unbounded joy and happiness by going directly to the new server instead:

Take your time, the fact that all my work has dissapeared into oblivion is probably a blessing in disguise.
P.S. I'm glad you agreed to stay and help us with the site after the last argument I had visions of being trapped in an ABC Hell without a computer wiz to fix things anymore :)

I wondered why things were slowing down. In frustration, I finally removed some of those annoying programs the internets loads on my computer thinking that might be the problem. It wasn't, but everything else sure runs smoother.

Have also just managed to access database for first time. Painfully slow page load times but am sure it will get quicker as fingers fixes fings.
Any chance of changing the front page link from the phorum pages so it takes us back to www3. John? at the moment it still takes us back to the old site.
Haven't started a tech thread on it coz it is only a trivial point.
