Genre Writing
Hello there everyone :0)
I have this great idea for a story buzzing round in my head, but it seems to be developing into a sci-fi/horror story; kind of like Shelly's 'Frakenstein'. Since I have never written for this genre before I was wondering if anyone had any foolproof tips for making fantasy seem like reality? My attempts sound so surreal it's funny! I'd appreciate any help, thanks :0)

Probably the best way to start is to simply write it as it flows; it could be a 'stream of consciousness' exercise where the words are tumbled onto the page literally as they fall out of your brain. Then, edit it heavily and incorporate a plot. Keep in any vivid images and grotesque descriptions which may lurk within. If you look at the Scary Mary thread, you'll see that Curua and I are also going to attempt the horror genre for the first time. Just have fun and see how many people we can terrify. If you find that it all goes horribly wrong, you could always take a swift detour and turn it into comedy or a pastiche of a horror story. It's all valid writing.
