The author, whether anonymous or not (we have all your I.P. addresses) will receive a first warning. Second warnings will not be issued. You will not be able to access the site if you re-offend.
We have deleted certain posts recently but the member has persisted in posting. Please try to refrain from posting gibberish as it upsets browsers.

I don't think anyone should be threatening that e-griff be thrown off the site because he posted a little gibberish. What is life anyway?
Furthermore, I don't even think his posts are particularly distracting or offensive -- especially when you take into account what this entire thread was started for.
I think you'll find that it is the same person, else they have problems typing their email address. It is a dreadful waste of time, but some might say it is a form of art, although I am not sure what sort.
At what point does it cease to be entertainment? Clearly the poster enjoys entertaining others. Especially if they spend a long time discussing who the person is. But ultimately, does it really matter who they are? Are they just using a form of self expression after all?
I am not sure that a newsgroup on Usenet would take too kindly to the sort of messages that the poster feels inspired to post, but then this is a discussion board and not Usenet.
Apart from one small slightly tongue in cheek comment, I have refrained from taking part in this thread in the hopes that it would fizzle out, but I now feel obliged to give my opinion on what has been happening here.
Over the period of time that the site has had a forum for the use of members, there has from time to time, been threads of an antagonistic and personal nature. I have been the subject of one or two of these myself, and indeed have been the protagonist sometimes. Now and then these threads have become a bit heavy with accusations and insults flying in all directions, but the management have rarely interfered, have not to my knowledge moderated the threads, and only very rarely pulled a thread after complaints from the recipients of offensive posts. There have been a few occasions when I got things wrong and was man enough to accept this and apologise. I believe my apologies in these instances were accepted in the spirit in which they were meant and the ripples soon disappeared.
Most of the several thousand users here either disregard the forums, or read, but don’t post on the boards. Anybody taking the trouble to look back over the threads will soon realise there is a hard core of regular contributors here, plus an ever changing flow of temporary residents. It is my belief that everybody who has come here in the right spirit has been welcomed, and they have enhanced the site enormously. However I can see it must be a bit daunting to some newcomers to join in on what is a very lively, and in the main, intelligent and witty discussion board that seems to be dominated by the same few names. Obviously the regulars represent the more extrovert and opinionated element among us all, but that doesn’t mean new faces aren’t welcome or are considered unimportant.
Then there are the odd sad individuals who have nothing to offer, as they are social misfits, probably just as unpopular in their real lives as they are here. They have no means of taking part in a discussion other than to be destructive and rude, their opinions are not relevant to anything other than their need to be noticed, and in truth need sympathy and probably psychiatric treatment to help them deal with their social dysfunction. They think they are intelligent and witty, when in fact they are the antithesis of those things.
I am dismayed at the outcome of this latest thread for two reasons.
Firstly it means that discussions from now on will probably be stilted, as posters may feel they can’t say what they want for fear of being censored or excluded.
Secondly, and I feel very strongly about this, it means that the social defect responsible has been handed a victory. Whoever they are, they must be sitting in front of their PC with a big grin on their face. They have succeeded in making a negative impression on the running of the site through nothing other than childish ignorance and stupidity. What a sad day for freedom of expression!
I sincerely hope the executive will reconsider their decision and allow the forum to carry on as a self-regulatory area of the site that has become an integral part of the lives of many of us.

But I'm starting to get a clearer picture of you now. You read other people's comments and wish you could put your name to them. You get angry because other people state their opinions with honesty, and you can never allow that in yourself.

It's someone messing around mississippi.. It's probably a kid on his/hers parents computer posting stupid stuff on these threads without their parents knowing about it; because they think it's funny. If their parents found out they'd probably get a slapping.
There aint no forum moderators and if there was they would display a proper email address.. and also no offence to anyone else who uses proxy.. but the same person who posts these stupid comments on these forums is always a proxy it seems. I'm not judging people who use proxy, that would be stupid.. but the other people on these forums who use proxy- display their proper names and email address.. so you know who they are.. this person always changes his/hers. I have a sneaky suspician it's a bored kid with nothing better to do.

On a more serious note, I think victimising certain people without any evidence that they are Gaunty is completely unnecessary. No, we don't all always get along round here, and it would be stupid to think we could, but bullying other members of the site is unacceptable.
If whoever Gaunty is has problems with people on this site, then he or she ought to at least have the balls to be straight up and honest. For God's sake, what are you afraid of? It's the internet - nobody is going to come round and kick your door down to get their revenge.
Whatever the reasons behind the anonymous postings - a wind-up, genuine anger, whatever - it's getting ridiculous now. Just give it a rest and get back to whatever you did before you starting doing this.

On the subject of this thread I don't believe I was saying enough is enough, or being presumptuous to the point of thinking that I possessed true wisdom and I certainly have no authority, real or otherwise. I was also not trying to tell anyone what to do, just giving an opinion. I don't believe I hold moral high ground either as I'm not too sure what or where it is, and surely the person who has the last word is the person who is in a position to pull a thread off the board. As it happens I almost certainly over reacted and should have been a little more perceptive, but I've always been a little naive in these matters. I don't think it really matters who it is, as long as it doesn't affect the site in any negative way. The best thing to do is to totally ignore posters of this crap and eventually they go away.

They also have access to several different addresses. They can post as proxy, cache and, interestingly because they have previously denied this, server.ntl.
I reckon:
a) you know who it is and both of you are playing with the forum or
b) you know who it is but want to get them to admit it without naming them yourself or
c) if you really don't know who it is I think you are in for quite a shock.
