THE MAN IS (WAS) A GOD!
I've just finished reading "Magnus", his meditation (novel seems the wrong word) on the martyrdom of St Magnus, an 11th century Earl of Orkney which is simply brilliant. And his collection of short stories The Masked Fisherman which I read years ago made me realise how much could be packed into a short story.
If you've never read any of his stuff - visit Amazon/The Book Place/Waterstone's/wherever and get yourself a copy.
Truly brilliant.

I loved Greenvoe, his novel about a fishing town in Orkney - and he was also a brilliant poet.

According to amazon that book is out of print and only available secondhand. I think it's a real shame that he's not more widely read.
