I think everyone is kinda balanced..I could just as easily list 10 things that make me sad like
Homeless addicts
being misunderstood
England's inevitable crash out of any major football tournament etc etc.
I think my happy list is longer than my sad list (good will concquer evil on the last day!). It is natural to try and fill our lives with the happy things. But it takes more courage to do something we know is right even if it doesn't make us happy.
But the paradox is that knowing it is right probably makes you happy...I mean who would want to wash filthy lepers all day ...but I bet it gave Mother Theresa a warm glow!
Liana sorry about you dog...I hope your girl's aren't too upset. I remember being devestated when my Guinea pig died (I was about 12 at the time)
My youngest was the worst affected. Dogs are like family members really...
however
i appear to have bought, quite by accident, a burmese cross ten week old kitten this afternoon. She will hopefully get along just fine with the bengal who will be moving in in a couple of months, and not be TOO cross.
She's completely black, completely mad, and a real tonic. My daughter said "Marmite (yes i know) has come to mend our hearts hasnt she?"
(Which i thought was rather nice, although it might make some people retch a tad)
I will be able to race them too.. hurrah.
Hurrah the joy of the litter tray awaits the Pesky household.
i'm so jealous you've got a kitten and a Burmese blue as well.
and you're getting another one bah!!!
Fancy swapping for six mangy adult moggies?
sharing tomatoe and garlic bread with friends who make me laugh
making people smile
simply enjoying a light hearted joke
walking in the rain when you know at home there's a warm fire and dry clothes
watching kite surfs on a sunny day and the surf is rolling and you've drunk the best part of bottle of wine and your asking loads of questions
listening to my grand daughter's voice as she tries it out
watching her face when she's laughs
watching her face when you give her something sour
following my daughter and her partner as they walk down the street - they hold hands and whisper sweet nothings to each other - they have that language thats just between them - wish I had someone to hold my hand like that
actually working and doing something that means someone else will gain by it - even indirectly and knowing that I may have inspired someone in someway
Ah....roast potatoes.....hmmmmmm....and chicken. *salivates*
This is a great thread idea, but other than the potatoes and chicken, I'll have to give this some thought for my own list. You're right, though, about the down-in-the-dumps vibe-- That's how I've been feeling for a while.
I sometimes add a splash of balsamic vinegar to my roast potatoes, and that not only puts little dots of black on them, but gives them a burst of sweetness that is just lovely. In fact, listening to someone talk about their special way of cooking roast potatoes makes me happy - everyone has a slightly different style.
1.Ray Davies singing 'Waterloo Sunset' at the Bloomsbury and knowing that I am going to hear him sing it a few more times before the end of the week.
2.The feel of the brand new Italian suit that Ruth has just got me.
3. Lifting Ruth from the Sofa when she is so sleepy and putting her to bed. Beautiful.
4. Talking to Bobbie Gillsespie from Primal Scream the other day and him stating that he would love to play the Bloomsbury and that we should talk in the future.
5. My new class friends on my secend year at Birkbeck.
6. The news that Blair will soon be leaving us as PM. I hope his health improves but I think he will jack in the job a lot sooner that expected.
7.My collection of old radios.
8. The Ben Folds five playing whilst the coffee is brewing.
9. Wayne Rooney giving it some.
10. This odd feet thing that myself and Ruth do whilst wathing Coronation Street.
