Magazine Launched - Submissions wanted for Issue 2

Some of you may remember my asking for submissions back in the spring. By some miracle, things actually came together and I've managed to launch Issue One of my magazine - the Orphan Leaf Review.

Two of the best - nay, THE best - leaves (it's made up of "orphan leaves" - individual pages, as though they've been torn from books) are from ABCtales's own Andrew Pack and Stu Bryan*.

So, I'm now calling for submissions for Issue Two, which should be out in March. It can be poetry, prose, non-fiction, anything. From any kind of book, and any part of a book. But it must be one leaf, as though torn from a book. Best thing is probably to have a look at the guidelines on the website. You get a free copy, and you keep copyright of the content.

If there's anything I've not covered, let me know.

Oh, and if you want to go crazy and BUY it, copies are £2 each, year's subscription is £6. Sales v. poor at the moment, so am crossing my fingers that I'll make it to Issue Two. It's nice. Different papers. Great for Christmas.

Anyway. www.orphanleaf.co.uk

*Anyone know Stu's email? I've been trying to get in touch for a while without success.

It's a really nice and interesting magazine, and I've cooked from the Nicaraguan cookbook orphan leaf with impressive results... Help James out, folks.

The paypal thing doesn't seem to be working (at least not on my computer). If you get that sorted I'll buy a copy.

Famine The cabin feels empty since he left to seek our fortune far across the sea. Others, who had an ounce of srentgth left the village. A pall hangs over our beautiful land. Jesus chose my sister and her child yesterday, today the priest. Through the dakening twilight into the far reaches of night I pray that He will take me from this stench of rotting potatoes and death to where I can give life to our baby in heaven. David - I just tested all the Paypal buttons. The first one didn't work at first, but I tried again immediately and it did work! The others all worked first time. No idea why it sometimes doesn't work. Hopefully it should work fine if you just try again, unless it requires cookies and you have cookies disabled?

Crystal - the best thing I can suggest is that you have a look at some of the sample pages on the website - see www.orphanleaf.co.uk/issue1.htm They give a much clearer idea of the potential for an orphan leaf than my attempts at describing it. An orphan leaf really can be a page (apparently) from any kind of book, and any part of a book. I really mean it, it's very open-ended. If you've written a book, you could pick out one page which is intriguing an interesting even when read alone. Or imagine a book which doesn't exist, and write just one page from it.

An update re Paypal payment - there's now an alternative to buying through my site. Go to www.projectpulp.com and buy through them (they're in the USA but I send the mag's out from here in Bristol). In fact, go to Project Pulp anyway. There are many many interesting-looking magazines listed, publishing in various genres.
