Award for Magazines

The submission period is now open for the biannual award for Outstanding Contribution to Literature (Magazines) 2008, if you are a UK/GB based Literature and/or Arts magazine you are eligible to enter - it is free to enter and award winners received both local and national publicity.

Past winners have included Mslexia and Transmission. Winners receive twelve months of support in Incwriters imprints, Incorporating Writing (ISSN 1743-0380) and Red Ink (ISSN 1751-1496), which has a combined readership of 100,000+ a year (figures taken from 2005-2006 site figures and census). They also have the opportunity to sell their magazine, for twelve months, via Incwriters ("This site is welcome alternative to the world of glossy promotion and gross retailing. Makes you feel that writing matters, and that it is thriving in all manner of ways” - David Constantine, Modern Poetry in Translation). Incwriters is a voluntary site and is run, managed and developed by readers, writers, promoters and publishers - it is truly an industry based website combining digital and hardcopy publishing to promote both regional and national presses, writers, poets and organisations.

The Judges announced for 2008 are the writer and academic, Andrew Oldham, the award winning poet, Steven Waling, G.P Kennedy, Reviews Editor for Incorporating Writing, E.C. Gregory winner, William Park and Libby Tempest from Manchester Central Library Live Literature Programme. Rules for the award can be found in body of this email and as a PDF attachment with Entry Form. Deadline for submissions is the 31st August 2007, an entry form must be included with the submission. The top twenty will be announced in December 2007 and the top ten, and the winner, will be revealed in 2008 (“Starting up Incwriters was a great idea, and it has developed into a wonderful and very necessary community. This is the way, in the 21st century, for writers to keep in touch with each other.” - Banipal)

My blog:

I hope you do submit it - its free, how many competitions and awards are that? Also, you'd be amazed who got in the top twenty last time, it was a blend of well known names and very small presses. So you have as much chance as anyone else, good luck with your submission.

Yours
