In case anyone is interested....

WRITING ADVENTURE IN BULGARIA:
15 - 22 September 2007

Word and World explorers are invited to Bulgaria this September for a unique writing adventure. You will be based in the village of Hotnitsa, beside the old capital of Veliko Tarnovo, and will have the chance to explore your own writing as well as the surrounding culture, towns and villages of this fascinating country. See www.hotnitsa.com for lots more information.

Word Exploring
The ‘expedition’ leader is Kathleen Kenny, an experienced (and adventurous!) creative writing tutor who is widely published in her own right. Kathleen says: “One of the best things about writing is the freedom it allows to mould the raw material of lived life into something which ends up resembling art. This transmutation demands permission. A writer gives him or herself this permission and, in so doing, performs an act of empowerment. No small matter.”

Kathleen will guide you through your own writing, providing detailed and supportive feedback on your work, whether it is poetry, prose or drama. There will be structured sessions throughout the week, including workshops, readings and individual feedback sessions as well as lots of time for writing.

We’re delighted to announce that our media partner, Vagabond magazine, will publish a selection of writing produced during the week. Vagabond is Bulgaria’s English monthly magazine and is an indispensable companion for foreigners interested in Bulgaria.

World Exploring
When you're not writing, there'll be opportunities to explore the traditions and countryside of rural Bulgaria:
· Taste traditional food & wine (you'll find that the clever Bulgarians keep all the best wines in their own country!)
· Listen to skilled and exuberant folk musicians
· Watch or take part in traditional folk dancing
· Experience the simplicity of Bulgarian village life (“like going back in time” as one visitor described our village)
· Walk local eco-trails to waterfalls and monasteries
· Visit museums, galleries, shops & cafes in Veliko Tarnovo

The cost is £300 per participant. This includes: course content, accommodation (in shared rooms), all meals, airport pick up (not flights) and a social programme. You should arrive on Saturday 15th and depart on 22nd Sept - the following Saturday.
