Isle Of Dogs - Patricia Cornwell
Pele. Perhaps the greatest player ever. He graced World Cups with his sublime skills and deadly finishing. Imagine him choosing to play in goal, blindfolded, for Halifax Town in an LDV Vans Trophy first round match, the pitch a mudbath and only 12 supporters watching. Imagine them losing twenty - nil. Now imagine how you feel watching it. This is Pele! Why is he in goal? Why is he blindfolded? He's making a fool of himself! Why is he playing here anyway for God's sake? Take off that blindfold! Get back up front! Do your stuff! I've been robbed of seeing the greatest player ever just because you've made a silly decision! That is what it's like reading this book. Pele didn't play in goal, and Patricia Cornwell doesn't write comedy. Or at least not good comedy. You can sense her giggling to herself as she types but no-one else is going to laugh because she hasn't got a clue what she's doing. Purile, self indulgent, painful, badly written tosh. Get that blindfold off woman and go and score some goals. Leave the goalkeeping to someone else.
