I'll have to try and sort things out for everyone tomorrow morning.
I've been mad crazy busy today doing application packs for Talecatching and am just about to leave the office now for the dark streets of Camden.
If I survive I will get to work on your problems when I get in in the morning.
Have a good night folks.
Hmm... I can log in now, but the formatting in every single one of my stories and poems is f.ucked. Boxes instead of speech marks, etc. What happened to the 'A is for...' set system that abctales is structured around? What happened to the attractive red and pink presentation?
I'm really disappointed by this 'upgrade'. Even when it's finished, if it looks like this, I think the site sucks. It's nowhere near as good (or readable) as the old one. Icons and text overlap and obscure each other. Sorry to be an old misery guts, but it feels like the 'upgrade' has pretty much ruined the site.
Received password and successfully logged in. Was able to get rid of some strange files with nothing in them - I assume long-ago deleted stuff.
But I can't understand the editing/formatting process. Have royally messed up my one poem. I'm tired of trying to re-edit because it just looks worse each time. Pity those who have a lot of stuff on here!
Cherry/pick designation has definitely disappeared, but seems that's now happened to just about everybody and is likely the least of webmaster's concerns right now. I'm confident that problem will get taken care of soon.
I'd like some direction in editing. It's frustrating when I want to italicize, for instance. It looks fine on pre-view, but the code shows up on what is 'published'! Plus the formatting seems to insist on double spacing when I don't want it. Am I missing a help function somewhere?
Think it will look good once I learn how to navigate.
ok. with my trusty dictionary and a bit of know how, i see that it says my pasword has been mailed. To whom I'd like to know, cos its not in my bloody mailbox... none of them!!!
My username is ........nippleclamps...oooh.....er .........no sorry different site that one.

No i don't use that site john...............in fact i don't know what your talking about.
In fact i don't know who you are...........and have never heard of that particular site that you're a member of.
You disgust me in fact.........bringing that filth on here.......aren't you ashamed?
*wriggles uncomfortably*
*Like a Fish out of water*!
Just so every one understands this, i was talking about 'inner sight', as my spelling suggest!!
I don't know why flashy is getting hot under the caler..........
but i think that post is a bit suspect?
Still no password forthcoming John...
and I havent been able to even open the front page for two days now. It is so slow it just times out. Anyone else, or is it just me??
[%sig%]
I can't even get onto the forums for some reason, am typing this as fast as possible before it takes me off - haven't been able to get on here for over a week. Am missing the site.

ABC is like a lovely cosy jumper that went with everything - even dog hairs - that's been uravelled so as to make it bigger, and lots of people working hard trying to knit it back into a jumper with extra wool, only it seems to want to become 11 socks instead :0)
RE: Design
No, we're not leaving it like this. But we're broadly of the opinion that making it work properly is more important when it comes to deciding what gets done first.
RE: 'Code shows up instead of formatting'
Edit the story and change it from 'Plain text' to 'HTML' in the drop-down provided
RE: Funny characters/boxes where quote marks used to be.
The import process stripped a lot of Word-specific curly-quotes and em-dashes. If you've got odd characters you can edit them out.
RE: Liana. It went to your address at liana.org.uk. Send me an alternative address to change it to - you have my IM details.
RE: britgrrl. If you're using an editor in the site which actually shows you the formatting as you go, you may want to turn that off. It's in 'My preferences' - change your default editor from 'Kupu' to 'None' to get the plain text version and see if it goes away.
As several people noticed already, I've been manually sorting the usernames of people who post here. (Except Terry at the top, whose account has something uniquely odd about it and we're looking at that seperately.) I got as far as britgrrl in this thread overnight, and I'll carry on with the rest of you shortly.
Again, when the full reindexing of the site is done we won't need to do this any more, plus we'll have time to write a wee manual for you -- it's now, 2 days in, about 63% finished. I know it's turning out to be an astoundingly slow and annoying process (for us too) - all I can ask you is to imagine just how much damage the database took during a year of running the unfinished code the site's had recently. The site was accepting *any* data which was thrown at it without validating anything. The number of 'stories' which were in fact, instead, uploaded binary Word files or images or Windows executables is huge - we were forced into being extremely aggressive with the filtering to strip them out during this move.
Now excuse me while I restart this thing again...

'...but you can, once again, log in and manage your own material...'
Well, I can login but can manage nothing (see above). Apparently I don't have enough privileges, whatever that means.
Bright ideas, John? I really would like to be able to access my stuff.
'No, we're not leaving it like this. But we're broadly of the opinion that making it work properly is more important when it comes to deciding what gets done first.'
Okay. Sorry to be such a Grumpy Gus. I realise it's a pretty thankless task at the moment. Cheers for answering my question. I do get the impression that the user accounts will be much more powerful once its finished.
But as for the formatting - are you *serious*? I've got over one hundred pieces on abctales. Are you saying I'll have to go through each and every one individually, editing it and reformatting it, then filling up the entire Last 100 list? Jesus H Christ. I guess it's going to be the same for everyone. That's beyond ridiculous.
