SHORT STORY FOR ASSESSMENT

I AM CURRENTLY A STUDENT STUDYING BA HONS DEGREE IN PRIMARY EDUCATION. MY SPECIALISM SUBJECT IS ENGLISH AND FOR MY ASSESSMENT THIS YEAR I HAVE TO WRITE A SHORT STORY AND I DON'T KNOW WHERE TO BEGIN.
I WOULD APPRECIATE ANY HELP ON EASY THEMES TO BASE THE STORY ON, ANY TIPS ON HOW TO WRITE A SUCCESSFUL STORY AND ANY TWISTS THAT WILL AMKE THE STORY EXCITING. I AM AIMING FOR A GOOD MARK AND WANT TO MAKE THE STORY AS ENJOYABLE AS POSSIBLE.
PLEASE MAIL ME WITH ANY IDEAS.

"Write about sex, Michelle. Works every time...it's the kind of specialism subject we all like to read about." HAHA that's great. I feel like the best things to write about are topics that you think about often and can't get out of your head. Take writers block. You could conceivably get writers block shortly into a story. This could lead to you being reclusive from writing and shying away! Instead write a story about a struggling writer. You will see have quickly you can come up with ideas based on a simple premise. EX: "Tina" is a struggling writer who had been working hard and is about to discover that her brother has contracted AIDS. He is a missionary in the Congo and was raped by a Guerrilla band of East Conganese militiamen who live in the jungle and have no contact with women, save when they attack villages. Tina uses this knowledge that she peices together when she goes down for the funeral and writes a best selling novel, but will she be tormented by the pain? Or will she be too consumed by her own success to realize that family should come before fame? Sorry if that was a little harsh, I did not mean to offened anyone!!! That was just what popped into my head. GOOD LUCK!

This has to be a wind up, surely? Or is our education system churning out wannabe teachers whose specialism (sic) subject is English yet have (apparently) not been taught how to construct a story?

Hi Michelle, Reading your message, it's easy to want to say something derogatry. I'm not a grate speller as you can see. Plot has to be one of the hardest parts of the writing game. But how about this. Write about kids. How clever they really are. Don't they fasinate you sometimes? Well. Hope I've helped. Keep writing. Regardless. Great! [%sig%]
