read it!
OK!!
is that 'read it'?
or 'read it'?
or 'i've read it - you must read it'?
come on, ivy, gerl,
is it read or read?
i hope it's jelly for tea.
soft lad ... it was An Order ...
yes, miss.
Cripes, Fish, go easy on The Poor Lad, will you?...
ta, andrea. the fishwife treats me like a kid!
er, don't tell me ma i'm still up - it's way past me bedtime.
have you read it yet????
well, andrea, have you???
*presenting an apple to iFB* i have, miss
*swallows apple whole* ... oooops sorry swot ... think i am stuck in character from other thread ...
Yep. Its brilliant. Very evocative.
glad you liked it liana ... i found it was v. tight prose and uncompromising telling ...
it's made me think about the difference between reading the prose and the poems on here ... unless a prose piece really grabs me in the first few paras (this one did instantly) i won't read on whereas even if i dont like a poem i will usually read it to the end ... i think this is quite different from reading a short story on the page ...
somewhere else someone made a comment about attention spans on the net and i certainly do read differently online ... anyone else find this?
Read it (or should that be 'read it'?) Fish and Lad. Yes, thought it was excellent and, as Bone says, nice tight prose.
Agree too (how boring this is getting, Ivory!) re prose and poems...could be that poems are mostly shorter though and therefore less effort to plough through (meant in the nicest way, of course, not being too brilliant at poetry meself). A short *has* to grab you instantly really, or not many people will bother to read it 'til the end, whether it be online or not...no time, in a short, to muck about with niceties and detailed descriptions.
Ah, instant gratification...
