Satirical magazine seeks lovely writers for beautiful lasting relationship

A couple of you will probably have come across me or my poems on this site or at one of the ABC events at the Asylum. While not building my reputation as the literary love child of Pam Ayres and Adrian Mole, I'm the co-editor of a satirical magazine called Piffle.

Unfortunately due to a chronic shortage of very funny writers wanting to send stuff to a very small circulation, economy production rag, Piffle has not appeared since February 2000.

It would be a shame if Piffle was forced to fold. We were, after all, the only magazine to offer such exclusives as:

Jesus Christ - 2000 years on and still dead

and

Diana's Not Dead, She's In My T-Pot - The story of a the Dagenham spinster who was shocked to discover the spirit of the late Princess of Wales living in her kitchen.

The point to all this is, if you write poems, stories, 'news', shopping lists or anything else of a vaguely satirical nature and would like to write for Piffle, please get in touch with me (bobblehat2000@excite.com),

Cheers,

David Floyd

As far as I recall, payment is a free copy of the mag...

Nice to get so many responses. Yeah. Free copy of the mag. Although in the unlikely event that we ever make any profits, we'll share them equally amongts the contributers in true socialist fashion. I'm happy to do the same with the losses if anyone is interested.

I'm a great fan of Small Press Zines. Most run on a shoestring, making little or no profit (hence the free copy as payment), but often do a fantastic job of keeping 'alternative' prose and poetry alive. I haven't read Piffle (though I've heard of it). Check out Buzzwords, Witches Cauldron, Peninsula and Mslexia (for women writers), to name but a few. The Small Press Guide lists hundreds of small press prose and poetry mags in the UK. Some of them even manage to pay! No slur on you, David. Keep up the good work.

Check out http://www.javelins.freeserve.co.uk - one of the best satirical sites I've seen (except the Onion and NTK of course). It was written by some extremely funny students I knew from my student radio days (hence me getting quoted on the front page.) and you might be able to get them to write for you. If you're after geek stuff, there's some satire on a site that I part own, http://www.newmediawhore.com - drop me a line if you want to use any of it and I'll ask the relevant writers
