Terry Nelhams

Another one bites the dust! Adam Faith handed back his lamp and scraper at the youngish age of 62. I never thought he was much of a singer but he was part of the wallpaper in the early sixties and went on to carving out an actors career which was almost as bad as his financial advice. Anyway it's another sobre reminder of the mortality that catches up with all of us sooner or later.

They repeated "Budgie" in the eighties, and I - for one - thought he gave powerhouse performances as the lovable rogue and porn-shop worker with loads of "birds". His songs were cack though.

Oh was it his real name? Duhhhh. Well "Faith" is a name isn't it? Could be bona fide.

Didn't he play a (rather convincing) limping, agent to - a much worse singer - David Essex in some film about the excesses of pop stardom?

Ooh that was the one where Monsieur Essex "did" two big-busted blonde twin sisters in a dodgy sub-ronettes gorl group AT THE SAME TIME... Eeny meany miney MO... I can feel those teenage hormones throbbing as I type... Just lurrrrvely

You've made it sound more interesting than I remembered, Paul. With a bit of luck it will be screened as a tribute to Adam.

The 'Faith' name Paul was just one in a succesion of names bestowed by a manager obsessed with evocative words. Hence, Adam FAITH, Billy FURY, Marty WILDE etc. Adam Faith was a client of the firm my last woman works at, an accountancy firm in Southend. She used to tell me. 'Oh Adam came in today, in his bloody scruffy old jeans and tee shirt, he always flirts with the young girls and buys 'em a drink in the pub across the road.' He apparently was always behind with his account and pleaded poverty.
