An untold, ugly truth re Soham

Something I can reveal from knowing someone who was nearly murdered by a paedophile. Kids disappearing isn`t uncommon. The person I knew abused got no media attn. So why was there so much media hype when Holly Wells & Jessica Chapman went missing? Just suppose Holly & Jessica were found alive but abused, like my friend was. EVERYBODY would have known their identities when Ian Huntley came to justice - yet the identities of abused kids like my friend are kept strictly confidential, to avoid life-long humiliation, the press are absolutely banned from knowing or publishing it. It just goes to show how the media, in their shameless desire to cash-in on child abuse, will endanger children`s health & safety.

Indeed. There was a case a while back where two girls were found in some seaside town, having been missing for about a week. Just after Sarah Payne. The Press were all jubilant, but of course anyone with half a brain was well aware that people don't kidnap six year old girls and keep them for a week without some very dreadful stuff happening. I don't think the trial etc ever got into the papers, either because something else drove it off the news agenda, or because the reporting restrictions were such that the story would have been stilted and artificial. Or perhaps, to be cynical, the story that we are interested in is simply Girls Found Safe or Killer convicted of Girls killing. Anything less black and white than that, we don't want.

i am not sure what your point is HB ... are you saying that the press are to blame for holly and jessica's death? or are you saying that they only publicise the disappearance of kids that will be found dead this implying that they have some knowledge that the kids ARE dead? thinking about i can't remember a high profile case where the kid was found alive after abduction but then if they are you are saying the press can't publish any details? it is a grim thought that the media circus surrounding the disappearance of a child is simply to sell papers and has nothing to do with actually finding any missing kids ... but if it was then there ought to be some memorable cases where a big song and dance was made when a kid was found ...

I must admit to finding that first post a little tricky to interpret.
