PORN Or EROTIC ART?

Just wanna know your opinion on erotic literature. A form of art or porn without pictures?

It's islandwriter. You might find it under the 'erotic' heading of story choices. I am anxious to see if you like the story (and I mean the story!), and if the sex fits it properly. David

to me, and I'm getting pious again, art seeks to explore those things we don't understand or need to relate to others. The bit of ANY narrative which we're all familiar with is the sex. there are very few ways of describing sex which have not been done and a zillion other human mysteries out there which need looking at. Isn't it true that about 80% of amateur poetry tries to describe sex in an 'original way' (fruit metaphor, photocopier metaphor, sea metaphor, yawn)? I think it's a given that most people are either enjoying, wanting or abstaining from sex. We know how the pink and wriggly dance of Humpty dumpty goes so writing about the ins and outs is perhaps a waste of time, to my mind. write about a unique experience, not the squelchy fun stuff we all do. It would be like having a billion poems about how nice beans on toast is. WE KNOW! Get over it and tell us something we don't know there, I feel much better. I shall now go and have a w....

I've written about "sex" a lot, although I wouldn't call it either porn or erotic art. If I had to stick a label on it, then it would have to be "humour". Just to be sure I'm on the right track, sex is all that messy stuff, right? I think I remember.

I believe it depends whether there is a well written story here, or just su*k and f*ck piece. If you find the story of literary interest just as you would any other story, then it is probably art. I don't mean to draw attention to my work here, however, I tried to write an erotic short story and posted it here. I tried hard to make it interesting as fiction first, sexy second. The story is titled Sarah, by David Ritchie. Read it and tell me if you think it is art or porn. I think you will see what I mean. Thanks, David Ritchie

Some erotic films masquerade as art, a current example of this being this years 'Origional Sin' with Angelina Jolie. In a way, their even worse than hard core porn because at least they don't pretend to be any more than what they are.

I get a distinct feeling of deja vu.. but where's Markie, standing up for the militant religious tendency? Surely, it's all down to the writer's intentions? I can't write porn to save my life - it's just so flipping limited! There are only so many things that two (or more) people can do to each other without making the reader burst out laughing! Seriously, I depict very little actual sex in whatever I'm writing because I think that leaving something unsaid, to the reader's imagination, is vital. Therefore, it's not intentional porn. Maybe it's significant that my only contribution to the Erotica section should really have been filed under Humour. (Unless nobody laughed, in which case it was definitely Erotica.)

come on! all that melty butter and those pert little orange haricots. beans on toast on a wet saturday afternoon with a black and white film is BETTER than sex. Well, the way I do it, anyway.
