being seen
First -- please don't take this as a gripe because no-one is reading my stuff. Far from it.
A couple of weeks ago I posted a collection of unremarkable paragraphs at ABCtales. No-one has ever read these before, and no-one has ever seen my nickname in this context before. So the entry began with a completely clean slate.
Since then, I've checked from time to time, just to see if my entry has been read, and on every occasion the "number of times read" counter has been incremented -- by just one. In other words, no-one has viewed the entry apart from me.
Concerned that the number was going up artificially, I checked with ABCtales, and had a response from Emily to say that there was no mechanism to prevent an author unwittingly inflating her counter.
But tell me, someone: given the clean slate I described above, exactly how is a piece of writing to be seen? Is it pure serendipity?
