I want to rage against the proffesional pointer outers - those whose entire philosophy seems to be defined by opposition to a whole range of issues... Ask them for their proposed solution for any of the problems they are ranting on about.. and silence usually follows.. if you are lucky then you may get general formulaic statements with no practical application whatsoever... Off course they vociferous in the media and elsewhere - it is in hot air they mainly devote their energies to- They are rarely to be seen in the front line where any real agenda changing action is called for.. You can spot them a mile away: They carry their political credentials on their shoulders like a badge of honour.. They delight in mixing with their ilk only and pride themselves on reading material that confirms their prejudices... They are completely unaware that to those of us that have moved on they resemble the last of the idealogical dinosaurs.. sadly comical and outdated.. and their backward looking views suitable only for mild amusement in nostalgia based comedy shows. Time and time again they are proved spectactularly wrong on one issue after another... you would think a period of reflection would follow.. in the cause of bettering of their understanding.. of learning.. of surrendering the ego on the road to wisdom.. But no.. the almost immediate reaction is an unashamed reshuffling dance and their fingers extending 'gleefully' to point out at the next thing 'that is not quite right'... in an attempt to justify their crumbling view of the world. Of course the agenda has moved on. At the heart of their misconception is a fundamental idealogical view of the world ( be it right, left or religous based)-- The ways things SHOULD BE--- a template they are constantly ticking the world against... and of course finding it falling short. In truth... there is no Truth... but only the truth so far. Rigid philosophies which do not allow for sufficient change always fail against more flexible systems (Afghanistan, Saddam's Iraq are only the latest in a long line of examples). Although the present arrives by means of the past it is not to be confused with the past as being a predictor for the future. If we care to step outside our immediate concerns and look at the brush of history then change is the only certaintity.. and those who set out to embrace and influence it are the only winners. The proffesional Pointer-Outers will always be the losers.. sadly even though they sometimes play a necessary role.

An example: there are people out there who think "Simply Red" were a great band...what's that about?
