Blair For President?
Blair For President?
It seems that there is a lot of support for Tony Blair to become the President of the EU once the Lisbon Treaty is ratified.
It wasn't until I read this http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2009/oct/14/silvio-berlusconi-backs-tony...
that I realised how well loved Blair is by former members of the 'B-team' (made me wonder if Bush still sends Tony love letters).
It seems that new members of the 'B-team' like Gordon Brown are keen for Blair to get the job too and even Tory leader David Cameron seemed content with the idea at first.
However the shadow foreign minister Wiliam Hague sees Blair as a divisive figure who had put the US before Europe and had split the continent over the Iraq war and has made it clear that backing Mr Blair would be "seen as a hostile gesture" towards the Conservatives.
Despite Blairs recent million dollar award for his contribution to peace (presented in Israel), his convertion to Roman Catholicism and his faith foundation I still see him as a war criminal and Hague's stance more than anything else might convince me to vote Concervative.
I admit I might be wrong about Mr Blair and I'm interested in what ABCers think.
Has Blair been a good man doing what he had to because he believed it to be for the best
or has he been a careerist doing what he had to to further his ambition
or has he simply been a man caught up in events who had to make difficult decisions who believes that even though some of these decisions were wrong he made them for the right reasons?
