and i am thinking of... by Ivoryfishbone

breathtaking! made me feel happy and sad and strangely free. and this a mere exercise.

at last a writer who presents one of the real prizes of the female existence - not the 'i'm kept by a great-looking, high-achieving man'; not the continuous questing through the make-up box in search of perfection, or vacuous self-love; not the laddish, man-aping downing of pints, or learning karate, or GI Janeing 'i've got the balls for the job.'

rather, that very special, often over-looked connection that a mother has with her children.

we need more writers like this - women who tell us what it is like to be a woman, and remind us why women are special.

enjoyed. marvelous moments like these when parents feel blessed in participating in the creation of other little human beings and watching/influencing them take shape.. brilliantly captured. Well done fish.

That piece of writing by Fishcake was truly mind-blowing. And I don't even appreciate poetry. Well, it wasn't REALLY poetry...was it?

I could see, taste and smell this beautiful piece of prose. Makes images and lost friends dance in the mind.......... sigh.....

I missed off the word 'noise' from my last post. this was due to too much in house.

Liked this very much fish, I've never been able to write to order myself so I was dead impressed.

yep a good piece of writing... easy to read and flowing. I also liked Liana's ' I'm Not Thinking..' as well.

crikey, have just been flicking through recent entries, and these Wiggins exercises have been producing some top quality work. elegant and crafted stuff from Stormy, something poignant (with a super-charged kick at the end) from Liana - first piece of prose i've read by her, and a completely exhilirating and wonderful poem by Robert. also happened to note that there are a few pages where no cherries have been awarded whatsoever. is one of the editors planning to return to these pages and give them their dues?

i think the Wiggy Workshops are great ... am enjoying stormy's stuff in particular ... i want more people to do them ... go on julian ... have a go ... writing to order as you call it brings out stuff that you wouldn't have thought about writing til you sit there with the upload box open and just type into it ... liana and i are often moaning about being "one track poets" ... these workshops make people do something different and i like that ...

blimey, ta fish. Fish is right Julian. Each time I have seen the title I have thought 'oh no, I can't do that' .... but once you get started ... The exercise is doing me the world of good. it is getting me writing - my output is very sparse - in the short term, and hopefully it will lead to an improvement in my writing in the long term.

It's a bit scary to be honest - I'm very much a re-writer ad infinitum. I'd love to be spontaneous though so I might give it a go in the future. The ideas from elsewhere thing is good because you do get to go on tangents you'd never have previously imagined, but usually I need something to hit me right from the start before I can even get a line out. You and Liana are doing tremendous jobs though and seeing as I've only had one original idea recently it might be good to get me at least writing something.

BTW, Ivory, have you taken down your "It could be Fiction" set? There was a story there (Meeting Mother, I think) which I wanted to send on to somebody, but now can't find the set? Why is you depriving your readers....? best, AED ps I do like the new poetry/prose-poems set though.

Sorry Stormy missed you out there - I very much liked your building site thing, although I was gutted you never took the chance of using the word "flange" in there - now there's a writing exercise!

Fish - hey ! Nothing wrong with altering your sets, but taking down Meeting Mother ? I feel sort of paternal with that one - put it back please. I am really staggered by the quality of these writing exercises. I've liked all of them and some of them I have liked a great deal. I'm going to run some on the front page next week and think that more people should give them a go.
