ANNOUNCEMENT: ABCtales.com service interruptions until Jan 5th

1. The nice man who wrote the book on Plone (literally) has provided us with a fix for the "getting a cached (logged-out) copy of pages instead of the correct version" bug. That's the one where it appears that you're not logged in even though you are, unless you refresh the page to force the right version to appear. I want to apply it to the site.

2. There's another issue to do with a 'blogging' module which is incorrectly installed on the site and needs removing - a process which will take ABCtales out of commission for several hours. The end result of that fix should be a significant increase in the speed of the site.

3. Plone (which for those who haven't read previous messages, is the name of the application which runs ABCtales) evidently has an interface which is proving too complex for lots of people. We think that removing all the little green drop-down menus and replacing them with - ya know - *links*, written in English, ought to make that easier. That doesn't involve taking the site offline, but it does mean that some things will look pretty odd briefly while they're being edited.

4. The forums themselves will go offline for up to 2 hours while I move them to our new server. I'll probably do this at about 3am though.

All this, as well as several changes to the front page, comprises an upgrade to the site - though not one remotely as disruptive as the 'big shift' in November. It will take place during the next week or two, but all the downtime ought to be out of the way in the next 7 days.

That's all for now.

"Fingers".
