writing about writing

I'm searching out pieces on this topic - ie. fictional accounts/poems about writers and the writing process - for my tutorial group. I've already uncovered Eddie Gibbons' Reasons to Write and mark.k's witty Lunch. Any other recommendations ? (abc eds: what about a search by subject index ?)

If you search by story, you can type in a keyword and it will show up relevant articles. I did a search on the site using the word 'writing' and found the following: http://www.abctales.com/abcplex/viewstory.cgi?s=1157 http://www.abctales.com/abcplex/viewstory.cgi?s=4180 http://www.abctales.com/abcplex/viewstory.cgi?s=2801 http://www.abctales.com/abcplex/viewstory.cgi?s=2052 http://www.abctales.com/abcplex/viewstory.cgi?s=2566 http://www.abctales.com/abcplex/viewstory.cgi?s=4112 http://www.abctales.com/abcplex/viewstory.cgi?s=1700 http://www.abctales.com/abcplex/viewstory.cgi?s=2908 ...and a lot more. There were 192 pieces in total so hopefully you should find what you want Hope this helps Kind regards Emily PS: You may be interested in the 'Stephen King's On Writing thread in the forums too)

Here's a website devoted to poems about poetry. http://homepages.tesco.net/~magdtp/pap1.html Hope it fits the bill. Cheers! Eddie.

Emily - you've put me to shame. Didn't realise there was a keyword option. Many thanks to you and Eddie for your help. Just to continue the writing about writing thread a while longer: I wonder if anyone has read David Lodge's book The Art of Fiction. It was published in 1992 and is based on a number of articles written for the Independent on Sunday newspaper. The book contains many illustrations from both classic and contemporary authors and concerns itself with a wide variety of topics pertinent to the fiction writer's craft - from novel beginnings and endings and the introduction of characters to more academic concerns such as Intertextuality, Metafiction, Magic Realism and Aporia. Lodge is very reader-friendly: I thoroughly recommend it.

Also, on the Microsoft Bookshelf that comes with the word processing programs, there are quotations that are about poetry. Quotations by famous people, I mean ... I suppose you'd be allowed to use them.

Professor, Don't feel put to shame - I work for ABCtales - maybe we need to re-name that option on the nav bar. I agree with you about David Lodge - haven't read 'The Art of Fiction' but I love his novels. cheers Em
