A little daydream: 123 ABC Tales: Tales for the commuter

How long does it take to read the average short story?
15minutes? 30minutes?

That is, at the least, a similar length of time to the trips made by train and bus commuters in London.

Do people read on public transport?
Yes.

Do people, generally, like to give money by charity by getting something of good quality in return?
Yes.

Does ABCTales have access to many many many unpublished but talented writers who would be happy to offer their work for charity?
Yes.

Would ABCTales like to increase it's profile?
I would presume so.

Is it just me, or does the idea of a book, consisting of, say, 123 brilliant short stories from the writers of ABCTales, collected in a book and sold for charity at a reasonable price at train stations, bookshops etc. seem like a pretty decent idea?

Maybe it is, and this is just a little dream on my behalf, but I hope you don't mind me sharing it with you.

Gabrielle, with this post I end the thread and never hark in the doorway of ABC tales again! NAH! I'll still write but now have come to the conclusion that I should stay away from these forums. Bye everyone

Dear Jake and fellow threadsters Dream On! No, only kidding. This is a great idea and all being well we do indeed have plans to publish little ABCtales anthologies, perhaps in time for Christmas. The charity angle is of course one that we support. 20 per cent of our profits go to The Big Issue Social Development Fund which helps vendors move on from homelessness, so we would be more than happy to do a special charity issue. It's great to see so much support for the idea. Keep em coming. Lisa

You can have anything of mine, Lisa (provided you want it, that is), and would definitely buy a few copies. JB got a good thing going there, we have a sort of spin-off here called 'Z', which I always buy, though it's not yet quite as 'sophisticated' as the UK version - a good read though. Our vendors, in general, are a happy, smiley bunch that brighten up a dull 10 mins inevitable shopping at the supermarket... Keep up the good work, guys (and gals).

If you are desperate you can have any of my stuff. Can't wait to get one of the books. Would be great to see the great writers here in a book and to give my money to a very worthy cause.

I've always tipped my hat for anyone who thinks of others, especially where charity is involved. Your passion for others is clear in this posting. Never change your positive outlook on life, Jake.

I think that's a stunna of an idea, Jake. I hope the exec's are up for it - I'd definitely buy a copy. I really hope it happens. Bombard the 'people in charge' - didn't John Bird start the Big Issue? I reckon you might be on to something! Beef

I am prepared to give my two asylum seeker stories (In Paris and Nice cup of Tea) to a book if the charity was for asylum seekers/ refugees/ non religious non biased charities in Croatia/Bosnia/Serbia. And I'd buy a copy too! Or two!

Jake Kane in good idea shocker! The coolest cat on the net agrees with this idea. I'd buy it for sure. Dunno if my stuff is good enough yet to be added but I would love to read everyone elses stuff especially if it was for charity!
