Retraction
After 11th of September, I entered the debate regarding possible retaliation by the US. In my naivety I contested that this time the US would make a suitably measured response, being convinced that the mistakes that lost the US international support in Vietnam would not be repeated.
Now, having read the latest media reports regarding the treatment of prisoner, I retract everything I wrote.
So, to those whose judgement I questioned I now offer my sincere and unequivocal apologies.
I was wrong!
Well, what did you expect, Fecky, from a guy who chokes on a pretzel whilst watching a baseball game...sense?
Yeah, but I'm nearly as big a tosser as him.
According to CNN several senators have received pretzels in the post in the past few days. Seems like the snack police have fallen down badly on this one
They're smart pretzels. So, no worries then.
Anyone seen 'Mallrats'? I imagined that guy wiping his ass on his pretzel and giving it to Dubbya...stink palm, George?
have you seen the way the american police treat criminals on their way to court? legs chained, hands cuffed, often with a hood if it is media sensitive.
... and all they did was to mug someone.
So, I will light the touchpaper before retiring and offer this:
If the yanks were at war with Afghanistan then any captured POW's would have to be treated under the geneva convention. Now, correct me if I am wrong, but it seems to me that the people of Afghanistan (especially the women) have welcomed their freedom from the oppresive regime that ruled it - the taliban - and fought on the same side as the yanks, albeit by proxy.
the people in captivity were not fighting for their country (if they were they would have changed sides in the time honoured Afghan tradition) but are members of a loose terrorist faction and have several nationalities.
the geneva convention does not decree what to do in such circumstances (it can't, it is 50 years out of date) which means that America can do more or less what it pleases. Now, the only reason this has made this British press is that some of them are Brits. Just think, if they were all Chinese, how much airtime would this get? very little.
It is like an aircrash, if no brits are on board it gets 10 seconds of news with Michael Burke using his best 'well, that's what you get for not being British' tones. if the airliner has 50 brits aboard it is a national tradegy and we all have to collect money in buckets.
did you all cry out when the Afghan's took USSR troops captive and slowly disembowelled them?
The biggest mistake old pretzel head made was in calling this a war in the first place. it is not a war, never was, never will be.
see history for details.
if there are any replies, please concentrate on the subject and do not bore us with details of how the USA funded Bin Bag in the first place. We know. And if they had not done that there may well have been a European War (proper one) between East and West a long time ago and we would all be drinking wodka and wearing grubby uniforms, if still alive.
damn, why didn't we let communism win?

Can anyone tell me why they're planning to try the American Walker man in a Virginia civil court as opposed to keeping him in a cage like the rest of the crew?
I think it's so brave of Justyn to be so forthright when there are so many supporters of the Afghanistani rebels in this country. Me, I couldn't sleep!
First of all, I think he is being held in a cage for now, but that's not relevant.
There are a couple of possible explanations. I will ignore whatever the official explanation is, as that is probably nonsense.
One, his father might be politically connected. This is long shot, but possible.
Two, they want to make a public example of him to discourage other Americans from doing the same thing. Very possible.
Three, Bush might have made a deal with the High Wanking Liberals in the Senate (especially Ted Kennedy) whereby Kennedy would push through Bush's education bill (which Kennedy did help get passed) in return for giving Walker a trial he does not deserve. With any luck, they will then either execute him (Walker, not Kennedy) or jail him for 50 years (again, Walker, not Kennedy).
For the record, they are being held in "cages" temporarily until better cells are constructed. If the U.S. military really wanted to "mistreat" someone, they would not allow the press to take pictures and plaster them all over every newspaper and television program in the world, now would they, oh Feckless one?
Personally, I could not care less how they are treated. They do not deserve any consideration whatsoever. They are bloodthirsty murderous fanatics. I want to extract all the informatin possible from them, then kill them. Their bodies should be cremated and the remains tossed into the ocean. Anyone else desiring the same fate may apply at their own discretion.

Oh? Has the trial gone ahead without me noticing then? I didnt realise they were proven guilty?
Yes, but Justyn, what happened to the 'innocent until proven guilty' scenario that everyone professes to be so proud of?
They haven't even been tried yet. And, as the Red Cross spokesman pointed out, there may well be a few innocent people in there.
Oh no, here we go again!
Of course, prisoners weren't shot in front of the camera in Vietnam, that's how we didn't get to know about it.
I saw the video film of that man being interrogated in the blazing sun and told by the CIA agent that he'd get no Red Cross help until he'd said what they wanted to hear.
It was the US who labelled it a WAR on terrorism. Now they refuse to treat their prisoners as prisoners of WAR.
My main concern is that not treating prisoners humanely, far from discouraging others, will give the terrorists credibility. I believe the British Government learned this lesson by interning prisoners without trial in Northern Ireland.
