Does anybody know the procedure for submitting to audiobook publishers? Is it basically the same or is there some audio equivalent of 'synopsis and the first three chapters'? Any help appreciated :)
hey primate
not sure about this one ... not entirely sure if i know of ANYTHING first published as audio ... i thought they just picked up on work already in print ...
dunno tho ... be interesting to get some definitive answer ...
Hi Fish.
I dont know much about it either. I just remember that last year a mate lent me a really good cd of a bloke reading out his comedy poetry, and I figure it's worth a try. You're probably right about needing to have it in print though, and that's unlikely to happen so it's more than likely an academic query as much as anything. But like you say, it'd be interesting to get a definitive answer...
primate,
I recalled that barry wood has all his short stories on audio. Although he is in canada I'm sure the principle will be the same. I just checked up on author search and his stuff is still on the site.
there is a link to his website on this page:
http://www.abctales.com/abcplex/viewuser.cgi?u=barry_wood
... where you might glean more info. As far as I am aware barry is purely on audio and not in print..... but he might have done it all himself as opposed to applying to audiobook publishers....can't remember .... it's nearly a year since I looked at his page.
good luck.
Cheers Stormy! I'll check it out straight away :)
Check out www.audible.com It is one of the banner advertisers on abctales. I've purchased quite a few audio books from them.
You can send them an email with your questions and they will probably respond, eventually. Like all dotcoms, they are short staffed these days.
I think you must be in print first, or it must be a routine from a radio program, or if you are Robin Williams, you can do anything you want.
Still, it's worth looking at their site. They have tons of stuff.
sorry primate, I tried his site tonight but it doesn't seem to be there any more!
you may have to be in print to play with the big boys but I know for a fact that Barry sold his stuff purely on audio. It's probably a cheaper form of self publishing. The end product is cheaper and easier to flog too. Especially if you hook into blind person associations which I think Barry did.
oh well.
