What is Israel playing at?

Is Ariel Sharon mad?Doesn't he realise what will happen next?

In retrospect I was a little hard on Nicoletta and I apologise to her for that. However, I did not respond because it was apparent from her reply, the next morning, that I had upset her and I thought it best to let it drop: least said soonest mended. I was not surprised that you decided to ‘pick at the scab’ in the pretence of supporting Nicoletta but at least you have prompted me to apologise - which perhaps I should have done in the first place. As for remaining ‘virtual’ it should be plain to all and sundry that it’s to make myself a harder target for drunks and grudge bearers :-) [%sig%]

Try as I might, I can't whip up any sympathy for the bloke who inspired so many suicide bombers. Although instead of cutting the head off the snake, Sharon may found he's simply cut the head of the Hydra and another ten will grow.

I'm sure that Sharon is counting on it! I notice that Jack Straw described the assassination of Sheikh Yassin as "unacceptable" and "unjustified" where as Dick Cheney says "there's only one way to deal with terrorists and that's to root them out and destroy them"!

Tragic

"..... suicide bombings and mutual demonisation seem destined only to grow... This cannot go on forever, and the United States must try, once again, to help both sides find a way out." The New York Times - US I think it would be laughable if it was not so tragic: the US appears to be the only country in the world that has not condemned this act as, at the very least, sheer stupidity. How can the US hope to mediate in a process in which they are so obviously biased? [%sig%]

If everyone prayed for peace then it would be with us now! Sadly, as Missi often points out, religion does not seem to bring people together as it should. I remember a lovely little short story by HG Wells where Judgement Day comes and everyone finally gets a true idea of what God really wanted from them - they all end up ashamed and hiding in His shirt pocket. It ends with God suggesting that since everyone finally had an idea of what is required they should all try again. Now there's a good idea! It's hard to believe that Bush talks to God every day and yet supports such hard line attitudes: still, maybe there are many gods and Bush means the god almighty dollar. Still I seem to remember that Armageddon is somewhere in Israel...... [%sig%]

Used to have a terrible phobia about the world ending with a battle between good and evil. For a while I was really ill with worry, but now Armageddon better.

I may believe certain conspiracy theories but I don't believe any globally disastrous eschatological prophecies.

Nicoletta, if you are not a Christian you have probably heard Armageddon will be a nuclear holocaust - the Apocalypse. If you are a Christian you will be aware that Armageddon occurs in Revelations (a revelation to John at the end of the New Testament). As a Greek, you are probably aware that revelation translates to Apokalypsis "to unveil" or "uncover" - not a prophecy of violence and doom that some people associate with Armageddon but the prophecy of the defeat of the wicked by the forces of God. "Happy is he who reads aloud and those who hear the prophecy, and who observe the things written in it; for the appointed time is near." - Revelation 1:3 [%sig%]

Furthermore I think such things frighten children-adolescents, we should be more careful when we declare that the end of the world is extremely f.*.c.k.i.n.g nigh. Such insubstantial aphorisms have a tremendous impact on young people. This is not what they need to know. On the other hand thorough information regarding ecological matters - the only real reason for any disaster - is extremely important. The future belongs to them, don't spoil their visions by referring to 'Armageddon' -- they have the right to live free from such pessimistic prophecies and enjoy their lives just like older people already have (and perhaps that's why they so light-heartedly talk about it)! My advice is to protect them from the bad side of religion (any religion!). Teach them to love and respect nature and each other. That's all ......

I don't believe anything word for word with regards to the Bible. I search and I question, and what you say is an interpretation of the Apocalypse, your personal evaluation, your opinion -- and 'near' has already lasted 2000 years.

Well, of course there is no reason that children-adolescents should need to hear about people being blown up either on trains or in wheel chairs - but they do watch the news or hear about it from their friends. You can’t hide the bad parts of life from children but you can try to teach them love and respect for nature. However here in the UK the majority don’t want to know and are more interested in guns and gangstas, perhaps it’s different in Greece. As I tried to point out the implication of Armageddon is of only frightening for those who oppose God - but a time of rejoicing for the faithful. It’s very hard for materialistic people to realise that some people welcome the end of this life and the beginning of the next; such is the power of faith.

By the way since you are so eager to believe this is the end of the world then tell me in how many years will the world end? one two five ten? chaos would rule humanity if everybody expected such nonsense! And if you are a valid christian then you must know about the Antichrist, well, where is he? he is part of the End of the world right? in fact he will be responsible for all the violence which you described. As far as I know there is no Antichrist so far. Unless of course your sources claim the opposite.

"It’s very hard for materialistic people to realise that some people welcome the end of this life and the beginning of the next; such is the power of faith." I will answer only if you tell me how old you are.

I'm not playing with words Mr :o) but since you are, I guess you are also rich enough? I'm 32 and my family's income is very low, so I'm poor. If we count the expensive things I have in my house and the expensive things you have in your house, which one would be more materialistic? Then we can talk about materialism Mr :o), somehow I've realized that the people who 'say' they are ready for the beginning of 'a' next life usually pile up lots of unnecessary gadgets, furnitures, clothes etc while living 'this' one.
:o)
Anonymous's picture
While I'm sorry to hear that you feel that you don't have enough gadgets I'm sure that compared to most Palestinians you would be seen as extremely well off. The fact that you place such importance on material objects show how materialistic you are. The Palestinians having had most of their country stolen from them often struggle to get enough water. As a lover of justice you don't think they deserve some mercy rather than rockets?
:o)
Anonymous's picture
We might as well confine our discussion to this thread - it's shorter than the other. How do you define justice? is it "just" that a man fighting fot his land be called a terrorist? Is it "just" that Dick Cheney says "there's only one way to deal with terrorists and that's to root them out and destroy them" You can have your justice and I will pray for mercy! For when Western justice executes a man - Eastern justice blows up innocents - and their is no mercy on either side. [%sig%]

No Mr :o) the fact YOU did not reply to my questions shows how materialistic YOU are and that you are not suitable to talk about anything --at least for me. You have no valid arguments, you use a lot of pharisaic tricks and you easily change subject according to YOUR personal interest. I'd be a fool if I continued arguing with you, so goodbye Mr :o) -- I won't answer to your silly accusations ever again.
