Hmm. It's a dull ending for a movie, for sure, which is a shame as it's otherwise a brilliant film. [The spiraling panning-out shot from above in the Library of Congress when they're going through card indexes was also copied in an episode of the Simpsons, I recall]. Of course this gets a person started on "hack movies" - films where lead protagonists are reporters. ooh - yes - I loved that 'film' - it was a TV series if I remember correctly. Written by Chris Mullen who then went on to be a junior minister in the Blair administration. Ho Hum.

The movie didn't stick precisely to the book, Hollywood always has to 'adjust' the plot to display their 'stars' to the best advantage. Compared to the book, the movie was crap.
