salem witch trials
what info do u have on the alem witch trials?
We knew you weren't _that_ old, Missi...
They missed you.
Have you tried researching them? Sadly, we're not an essay-writing site. And you won't learn by someone just telling you about them.
Try reading Arthur Miller's "The Crucible" or you could cheat and just read a study guide to it. That play is all about the Salem Witch trials and was also an allegory about Senator McCarthy's persecution of writers and actors whom he believed to be communists.
The Salem witch trials are actually a fascinating part of history, and I think you'd gain a lot by actually doing the research that has been set for you. And double-check everything - there are some unscrupulous people on the net now who take advantage of people like you, and print up essays for you to steal from with facts like "Walt Disney was one of the main prosecutors of the Salem Witches"
(I've seen a wonderful one on Lord of the Rings recently, which contains some truth, but some other bits which will make it very obvious to the teachers marking/grading the paper that the student never bothered to read the book and was just preternaturally lazy)
Teenaged girls danced in the woods.
People got scared.
Babies died.
Lots of people got hanged.
Just think of Iraq.
America creates irrational fear of other in order to cement its own national identity and bring about repressive policies at home.
Another story about nonsensical religious dogma running wild, with murder, torture and teenage sexuality thrown in for good measure. Conclusion, if a teenage girl says she a witch, she's probably very horny and a liar.
I seem to remember they actually 'pressed' at least some of them. At least when I had to do character studies of some of the participants there were 'pressings' to elicit confessions.
Umm, I should say that I was studying Millers 'Crucible'.
