Who to address to...?

Hi everyone,

I'm about to send out a couple of short stories to a magazine but have a quick question I hope someone can help with.

In my covering letter who should I be addressing. At the moment I'm going for the old classic of "Dear Sir or Madam" but it feels so formal and silly.

I have the name of the magazine's editor, should I address the letter to them?

I just worry that if I address it to them and it actually goes a couple of rungs lower in the chain then that could also look quick silly. I just don't won't my first impression to seem amateurish.

Any suggestions would be really appreciated.
