Kurt Vonnegut rules of short story
Kurt Vonnegut's rules of short story writing. He wrote a mean short story so might be worth a look.

I've read his rules a few times. And every time, I think to myself that I should have followed "this rule" with "this story". Brilliant man, he is.

This story kind of adheres to rule number three albeit replace 'glass of water' with 'the mint with the hole'.
