Hi there! I'm new to this site and intend to have a good look around over Christmas. I was wondering if anyone would be willing to recommend some stories for me to start with? I know there is the 'cherry-picked' system but there seems to be a few of those, so if you had to recommend one story on this site, which would it be? Thanks.
Phil

And welcome aboard Philip - please drop the author an email if you like the piece; that is the best way for everyone on the site to get read and have feedback. And those of you who have posted here, give Philip's stuff a look. I have just read one and thought it was interesting and well worth the time spent. (It was Forsaken Philip)

Thanks Andrew. I do intend to e-mail the appropriate writers after i've read their work if i feel i've something constructive to say. Thanks for taking the time to read 'Forsaken' (do you have any idea why they made it a '12' cirtificate?) and for the encouraging comment. Also, on the off-chance, thanks to the person who gave 'End Of The Pier' such a good rating; i've no idea who you are but if you're reading this it really made my day.

By way of reinforcing those previously mentioned, and adding to the list: fey_mouse stormy_petrel marcus ralph dartford llamakc justyn_thyme funky_seagull primate Also 'The Tree Where Doves Go To Die' by eddie_gibbons But its fun to browse around randomly and discover what appeals to you. Now, off to read yours.

All very good picks so far. I would basically say - the best way is to paddle about until you find some authors you like. Absolutely just one would be Andy Barratt's Noodles.

Dylanzarathustra (I think that's the right spelling!) uses amazing imagery and language in his poetry. MrsMiggins (again, not sure about the spelling - possibly Muggins?) is very funny. If you like horror/tension, check out Funky Seagull - damn, can't remember the title, a computer game unleashes horrible monsters that kill lots of people...can anyone help me out with the title? I really loved reading that. Ta for the mention fish :)

Thanks to everyone for their recommendations, you've certainly given me plenty to read! I'll take a look through some of these names and see what else is around, and i'll try to get in touch with those i read. P.S. if the person who gave 'Forsaken' a good rating is reading this; thanks!
