Millennium People

About halfway through the new JG Ballard novel and having a ripping time (as I believe those salts on young and loaded like to call it). Ballard is a national treasure and it always surprises me he isn't more justly prized (each new Ballard book should be given the acclaim / hype / attention we tend to devote to *shudders like the non-sporting fop he is* people like David Beckham . . . ) . . .

He's having a lot of fun in Millennium People too - setting a bomb off in Heathrow, burning down the NFT . . .

The thing with Ballard, is that everything he writes can be traced back to one initial crystal clear image taht he's imagined, then it feels like the book or story is just a padding around that image. What's the image for the new one?

For me, so far, it's the Millennium Wheel blackened by smoke from the NFT . . . It's in a chapter called Black Millennium (which is a much better title for the book) and - it's as crystal (as you say) as they come . . .

I find his tone a bit flat, myself. I agree that he's a treasure, though. In any case, he may not be feted that much, but he's a god to his hordes of readers - and that probably means more to him. d.beswetherick.
