EMI : Start of a Trend?
What's going to happen to the music industry if other music companies follow suit?
For those who haven't heard: EMI are axing one fifth of their recording artists and are to stop producing their own CDs and DVDs in both Europe and America.
they'll learn not to be so greedy?
Worryingly EMI’s stock has immediately gone up 6P and EMI forecast a saving of at least £50,000,000 a year. Although a significant amount of albums are downloaded legally by paying an official online music store many people just download music illegally and this is obviously a response to that.
I think the real result will be less choice as the big artists are always going to produce albums on CD and although emerging talent might be able to produce bedroom CDs, the quality, in the main, will be consequently much lower.
Sigh....eventually our music will become as bland and "samey" as our high streets.
