This Is Your Own Time You’re Wasting by Lee and Adam Parkinson — Manchester Primary school teachers and brothers. The duo behind the podcast Two Mr Ps, which has been listened to over four million times and authors of Put a Wet Paper Towel On It a Sunday Times bestseller.
There are around 600 000 teachers in the UK (Scotland 53 400) which provide an audience for classroom mayhem and a ready pool of stories which involve shit, sick, sexual bloomers and all the other kinds of zany fun.
Well, not for me, but I am hard to please. Hmmm. The book is illustrated by Tim Sandler, also a teacher and illustrator. I’d suggest they add nothing to the book and could safely be left out. D—minus
I sympathise with their crusade to make teachers human. To let the general public inside the classroom. And for parents to trust them and not treat them as glorified babysitters that need sorting out. The think themselves lucky crowd that moans about them having thirteen weeks paid holidays. (Guilty).
I go the other way, of course, and think everybody should have thirteen weeks holiday. What they show in their unfunny way is teachers being continually squeezed to produce more by doing more, while not actually adding to children’s education. The middle-class have seized the moral high ground…I’ll stop there before I go on another rant. Home school the little fuckers if you want, but don’t burden the general public with the cost. And tax private schools as businesses with no tax breaks.
We all know what schools should be. We’ve all been to school and have our own memories. The best days of your life and all that crap. For many of us digital dinosaurs we lived in the world of chalk and talk. And got belted if you didn’t shut up. (Guilty.)
Kids today age quicker. Especially in which British kids lead the way in numbers bullied online (technically outside the classroom) in Europe. We’re well up with the number of children being treated for depression and other mental-health disorders.
The two Mr Ps hit on that and bullying teaching staff by senior staff which has many looking for jobs outside the profession. Much has changed since I was a kid over fifty years ago and Noel Behan let shit run down his leg and nits jumped from head to head, looking for a bed. Much remains the same. It’s about relationships. My guess is these two brothers would be great teachers that don’t need all the shit that goes with it. Read on.
