NEDS (2010) written and directed by Peter Mullan.

I watched this DVD after watching the Scotland v Wales highlights. I didn’t know the score, so like to torture myself that way, but not enough to torture myself by watching the whole game. Highlights are enough. NEDS is not the Scottish play, but it is a Scottish film. Many folk I know have watched and commented on it because part of it was filmed in Salisbury Place. I knew this in advance because my pal Gordy Murdy works for a gangster I went to school with that does the security for film sets. There’s a kinda of irony in that. Neds is an acronym for non-educated delinquents. So John McGill (Connor McCarron) goes from being a prize-winning dux pupil in primary school and follows in his brother’s footsteps to being part of the young time that makes everybody life’s miserable and, in the process, their own. It was the scoolz that did it. Honest mister it wasnae me. If this was a honours degree film script I’d think –quite entertaining. On the DVD there is a quote from Robbie Collin, ‘News of the World’, ‘Bold, Brutal And Utterly Brilliant’. Yeh, yeh, as good as the Scottish center-halfs were against Wales. World class mate!
