Story and Poem of the Month

Our Story and Poem for September, very kindly chosen by hudsonmoon:

As usual it was hard selecting a Pick of the Month. What usually happens in these cases is you choose what sticks in your head and heart the most. And the two I selected did just that. As did the honourable mentions.

Story of the Month

Story of Month is Sean McNulty's Present Company. At first I didn't know why it resonated me so much. Perhaps it was almost losing a brother in the dreaded Viet Nam war.

Then there's the going home. The sit-downs with my own mother and her tales of a depression era childhood. But those were the thoughts that ran through my head as I read fine tale. Also, caused me to do a bit of reading up on the Tans and the era of which Sean writes. Love when that happens.

Poem of the Month

My choice of poem of the month is Jennifer Skinner's White Noise. Getting the words down on paper when you're dealing with cancer is no easy feat. Jennifer does it with beauty and grace. A must read.

Honourable Mentions

All the mentions below stuck with me as well. Some with laughter, some with tears. I think you'll enjoy them as well.

Oh wow thank you so much, Rich. What an honour. Im so glad this resonated with you the way it did and that you looked up some Irish history. This is the early days of a novel I'm working on.
