Are UFOs Real and What Are They?

Ever since I was a young Christian I have been taught that there are no alien planets mentioned in the Bible and therefore they don't exist. It would be strange for the Bible to omit something that was of such huge importance. We are told to evangelise all nations of the world but not to evangelise other planets. Neither would Christians simply accept that aliens have their own religion. Salvation is found not in religion but in personal faith in Christ. Our sins have separated us from God. We need to be forgiven but we need specifically to be forgiven by Jesus dying for us on the cross. If Luke Skywalker in Star Wars lived on a planet a million light years away, a million years ago, Jesus would not die for another million years. Luke Skywalker would have no possibility of salvation. As Christianity has to do with hearing the gospel message and making a personal response, if Luke Skywalker was alive today he would be a million light years from Earth and how would he ever know about Jesus? Would Luke Skywalker be a sinner or could he come from a planet where no one had ever sinned? Did Jesus die exclusively for the sins of this world or did he also die for Luke Skywalker, assuming that the people on their planet have sinned? The real problem is that Christianity isn't a religion or a philosophy, it's a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. That's difficult to transpose across unreachable billions of light years of space or billions of years of time since the universe has existed, unless you are like the majority of American preachers who think that the universe was created in 4004 BC because the Bible says so.

So what are UFOs? I was always told they were the result of evil supernatural activity - demons or demonic activity, Christians would call it. Having spent a long time looking into the subject, I am convinced that this is actually true. I would very much like to believe in visitors from another planet but aliens are evil spirits. Some alien sightings are hoaxes. The preacher Chuck Missler is convinced that 98 per cent of sightings are weather balloons or atmospheric phenomenon but there are another 2 per cent that can't be explained. In 1951 a large number of UFOs were seen over an American city and the local police received many emergency calls. The UFOs showed up on radar. They disappeared when aircraft were sent up to intercept them. Chuck Missler believed (he died in 2018) that these were supernatural visitors from another dimension and not from other planets. He cites their ability to disappear in a puff of smoke, like mythical creatures in a children's story, and their ability to perform manoeuvres that would kill a human pilot. How can you do a three point turn at 600 miles a second without crushing both craft and occupants?

One of the main English authors on the subject of UFOs is Timothy Good. He also helped to convince me that aliens don't come from other planets, although he believes that they do. The space faring aliens in his books are ignorant of the most basic facts of astronomy. One group travelled through a wormhole next to Jupiter's four moons. The problem is, Jupiter doesn't have four moons.  It has ninety five. In 1966, when the alien encounter occurred, Jupiter was believed to have thirteen moons. Star hopping aliens who had access to wormhole technology would know how many moons Jupiter had. The same aliens said that it snowed on Mars. This is possible at the polar ice caps at certain times of year but comparitively rare. A 1951 alien encounter written down by Timothy Good involved a man travelling on a UFO and seeing animals on the moon. Valiant Thor claimed to be an alien from Venus and visited President Eisenhower in the White House in 1960. The books about him, some written by himself, some by others, also show glaring errors in astronomy. A man is told, by an alien on Venus, 'Put the telepathy stone on your head and I will show you, by telepathic television, what is happening on Venus today.' There were mountains, forests and cars travelling down the motorway. Venus is a desert waste. If I was a space savvy alien I might understand basic astronomy. I might know that there are no mountains, trees or motorways on Venus and that there are no animals on the moon. Going back to the 1950s and 1960s people would have believed that there were. Just watch television programmes from that time. If I was an evil spirit trying to deceive people I would tell them what they wanted to hear and show them what they wanted to see.

Demonic deception is a very serious allegation but, reading the whole series of Valiant Thor books, I can justify it. I continued reading these books - Christians aren't supposed to read books about the occult - because one of them spoke about Jesus and said that Valiant Thor was an angel of the Most High God. Maybe he's one of the good angels and not an evil angel. But the later books are all about becoming a more advanced spiritual being and then you will be reincarnated on one of the other planets in the solar system. People in the 1960s believed that the other planets of the solar system were inhabited. When you become very advanced you will be reincarnated in the Sun, which is also a world. Christians don't believe in reincarnation. They believe in Heaven and Hell. Eastern religions believe in reincarnation and understand it very much the way it was explained in these books. I don't believe in reincarnation.

Dr. Larry Ollison is pastor of an American church where several members of the congregation have been abducted by aliens. Again, some of the stories are too weird to be true. One man was told by a beautiful alien woman, "The men on our planet are dying. We need your sperm." Wishful thinking. Larry Ollison gave some advice on counselling people who have been abducted by aliens. Be sympathetic. That person might have joined a UFO cult because when they went there they were believed. Be sympathetic and believe them. Also, if flying saucers are evil, being close to God can protect you from them. Few strong Christians, who read the Bible and pray regularly, are troubled by these aliens/demons and bringing people to this position will often end a problem which is usually very unpleasant and seems to ruin a person's whole life. It is also worth noting that encounters with such beings are rarely beneficial but usually unpleasant. Chuck Missler said that a Christian can't be abducted by aliens. People used to ask him about a well known case of a woman in 1962 who was a Christian who had an alien encounter. He said she voluntarily entered the flying saucer and warned people never to do that.

Jesus said that as it was in the days of Noah, so would the second coming of Christ be. For in the days of Noah, everything was going on normally, people were eating and drinking, marrying and being given in marriage, right up until the time that Noah entered the ark. Then the flood came and took them all away. Matthew 24:37-39. Chuck Missler drew attention to something else that happened in the days of Noah. Genesis 6:1-4. The sons of God took the daughters of men and married them. The sons of God were fallen angels. They may have been the legendary Greek gods. That would explain the name Valiant Thor. They had children by them. The Bible is full of stories about giants, the mighty men of old, the men of renown. These were human/angelic hybrids, the Nephilim. Chuck Missler taught that this would happen again when Jesus returns. Aliens who abduct people are fascinated by the human reproductive system. The antichrist will be a human/angelic hybrid. The world will experience a powerful spiritual deception. The Vatican has plans to baptise aliens and will be part of the plot. Pope Francis was thought to be the last pope, meaning that the time was very near. Of course he wasn't but the prophecy about Pope Francis being an evil pope called Peter the Roman could still be true but apply to a future pope. It is not impossible that people or beings claiming to be aliens would come to help this planet at a time of need. The second coming of Christ is prophesied to be the Great Tribulation, a time of suffering unequaled since the creation of the world and never to be equalled again. Matthew 24:15-22. The aliens might help us but with a terrible loss of freedom and a violent dictatorship. The Bible describes a terrible time of deception and turning away from God. 2Thessalonians 2:1-12. The antichrist will set himself up in God's temple and claim to be God. He will work miracles but by evil forces and not by the power of God. God will send people a powerful delusion so that they will believe his lies.

I answer that absence of evidence is not evidence of absence.  Because a subject is not mentioned in the Bible does not remove it from Biblical history.  I understand and accept the Bible as a compendium of the life of Christ and don't expect extraterrstrial or natural history or evolution or humma humma recognition in its pages.  I read the Bible to learn about Christ, not about UFOs or evolution.  But we shouldn't separate them.  We take things too literarlly these days.  A day to us in 24 hrs:  a day back then . . . I like that you investigate.  I think God invites our investigations because it is evidence that we seek His salvation, if we didn't, we wouldn't give a shit.

Tom, why don't you associate words with me and Turlough?

Ok fine! Will start tomorrow it's past bedtime! Jacques likes that game a lot he is very good at it.

You are expected to get off your ass and assocate tommorow

Jesus' words in Matthew 22:30 seems to inficate that angels do not marry, and the passage in Genesis 6 probably refers to intermarriage between the godly and the ungodly families. (and the word 'Nephilim' likely was of people of unusual stregth and height)

The whole concept of aliens is based on belief that life has arisen here by evolution and so could elsewhere in some form, but scienntifically it is being seen how impossible it would be for life to arise from non-life by chance, and develop. Mutations are harmful, and for there to be any new changes there would have to be many, many simulateous useful interrelated mutations. New 'organs' etc are only useful, not  harmful if complete and working.

Do you think evolution and creationism are mutually exclusive?

Variation and selection can occur, but evolution from 'goo to you' I think impossible scientifically, and more and more are aware of it, though nervous of the alternative. Some say God as Creator directed evolution, but that doesn't seem to sit with the narrative, nor be in his character.

As soft tissues are found in dinosaur fossils, the age of the earth is being shown to be much much younger than had been thought (and, would clearly be necessary if any possibility of evolution working), and where Darwin hoped mutations might give a mechannism, this is receding, and the complexity of the intricate biochemistry and its organisation in the cells is becoming more and more clear. And new organs can't be made gradually, they would be a hindrance to living unless complete and working well.

I've touched on this in a number in my 'Grand Designs' collections eg
