The pen

A half-decent Biro (like this BIC) costs a few scraps of change and yet has the power of contract, attorney, signs death-warrants, treaties, or can just record these thoughts.

But its power is also revealed when it's stolen by someone you thought you knew. Confirmed when he does it again, but this time you point it out.

The song

A song can transport me. The right one always will. Maybe not at first hearing, but in time. Then I take that song around with me everywhere I go, recreating every note and word in my head until I have it right - phrase-perfect. It has to be to do its job.

Then I try to work it through myself - on guitar and vocal. This is where it gets hard and perfect is a place far away. But once in a while, for a few moments, it comes and I am transported.

the pen is mightier than the sword, but you take the pen I'll take the sword. The guitar is mighter than the sittar, but I'll take the sword to both them.

The Pipes are mightier than the pen and the guitar, but you wouldn't want the kid nextdoor to get them for Christmas. Buy him a Biro instead. Or fetch out your sword.

The guitar is for people with clever hands. I fit my songwriting to beginner ukelele.
