This is Why I Don't Go Out

Went to Sainsbury’s mid-week instead of Saturday. Not sure why was going on a Saturday, there must have been a reason, anyway, went on Wednesday instead; it was a lot emptier. Except the shelves which were fully stacked. Lesson learned. On the way, decided to pay the £3.60 for ‘up to two hours’ extortion in Aberdeen city car park to make a stop at ‘the sisters’ shop’ and see if there was a cheap, yet charming, laptop cover. ‘The sisters’ shop’ is Sostrene Grene, a Danish Company, the name of which nobody outside Denmark knows how to pronounce. It means ‘The Grene Sisters’, let’s hope because it’s their family name and not descriptive of disgusting ailments. A fabulous, inexpensive crap-you-didn’t-know-you-needed shop, with, amongst other things, the best and most reasonably priced candles in the land. Top tip: if you see it buy it as it won’t be there next week and they don’t repeat stock. Genius marketing really.
To ensure a car-parking two hours’ worth, went to Waterstones; forty quid later, stopped at Pret for lunch. There was a man sitting at a table cleaning his teeth with a dental stick. Almost threw up. This is what happens when you have a half-sandwich and kid yourself it’s carb-positive as on a day out and a treat. Second lesson learned. Finally, after a James Bond-like move; U-turning to avoid yet more roadworks, criss-crossing the river, got to Sainsbury’s. Saw a forty-something mother who had her seven-year-old? son plonked inside a deep trolley. He was repeatedly saying ‘Mum’, as she droned, not looking at him, "You’re very whiny today". She was wearing noise-reduction head phones. Blanking her kid. And I surmise that if anyone had accused her of being selfish, negligent and cruel, it would’ve been the whine heard around the world.

The Writer's Curse
Ah, this sounds like the "writer's curse". We tend to "notice everything", don't we?
The thing is, we actually don't... not really. We're always looking for the "good stuff", which usually turns out to be all of the bad things around us - because its more dramatic and interesting than the boring good stuff.
It can be a blessing, too, of course. We see the beautiful flower fighting its way up through the ugly crack in the sidewalk. We see the way the grab handles swing and seem to dance in unison on an empty subway.
Don't you find this to be true?
