Ellie

Ellie came calling. She’s 9 years old (going on 25) and is the middle child of our eldest daughter, Karen. Bright and chatty, she’s just recently began to take pride in her personal appearance
after being very much a tomboy since babyhood. She alarmed me slightly when she suddenly announced that there was a hot boy she really fancies. Fortunately, it’s a teenage boy she sees on Youtube who plays some of the latest pop music. Her favourite song at the moment is ‘Human’ by Rag ‘n’ Bone Man and apparently this lad plays it a lot.

Her favourite TV program is ‘Call the Midwife’ and it is therefore no surprise that she wants to be a midwife when she grows up. She does realise that the series is set in what she calls ‘the olden days’… and modern midwifery is totally different. She actually has a life plan all set out. Teenage years and twenties are for going to college and university to qualify as a midwife. Then find a boyfriend who is kind, hardworking and hot. The idea is then to get married, buy a car and a house, visit some other countries and have her first baby when she’s 31.

Sounds like a very credible plan for a 9 year old to envisage. I hope it all comes to fruition for her. Mrs. Treaclechops says that when she was 9, her head was preoccupied with skipping techniques, hopscotch challenges and the latest copy of Bunty, which was her favourite comic.

Ellie lives about half a mile from us and I walked her home… and she steered me into the local shop so that I could buy her a tube of pink lypsyl. I asked her what was wrong with clear rather than pink. She assured me that pink was much better for her cracked lips. Mrs. Treaclechops always reckoned I was a pushover when it came to the grandkids.

I loved Bunty too! Except it made me nervous in cars as the stories amost always seemed to begin with fatal crashes which left the heroines orphaned and sent to live with evil people. Anyway, Ellie is clearly above all that nonsense with her sensible life plan - well done her!

Ps - I'm not the only one who seems to enjoy these blog posts, but I have to ask: have you checked with the parents about posting the (delightful) photos of their children? Some people really, really don't like it

Hi Insert. Thanks for your comment. No problem with me posting photos. They are the children of my daughters and they're Ok with it all. I'm actually the happy snapper of the family.

They grow up faster than they used to.  How lovely that you are able to see so much of the grandchildren, and that they can have you and Mrs Treaclechops in their lives.

Hi Airyfairy. Thanks for your comment. All the grandkids live within a 5 mile radius of us and we're fortunate to see them throughout the week. Great to be alive!
