Not quite! I find the thread amusing for two reasons: 1) I can't believe that any of you psuedo serious writers did not check out the terms and conditions before you posted! I did. And I only recently started writing and am not at all serious. My work knows it's place. I suspect a new catagory called "bruisedapples" may be needed. You can remove all the work you want but by placing it on the site ABC has non exclusive rights to publish it on it's website for 5 years and exclusive rights for one year if you receive payment. So if you don't want to be tied to ABC: a) Don't post b) Don't accept payment I'm sure the legal minded writers will correct me if I have misunderstood this. 2) Considering we men are supposed to be the aggressors in life I love every vitriolic, bitchy post in this thread. I'm off to tell my wife that she's not so bad after all! Goodnight. (bugger, did I spel all that rite?)

Yep Antoinette, I echo that. I just want to say, I was never agressive, and I don't crow - I think the whole thing is a total misunderstanding. At the time of my original post, l had subbed 11 poems. All were cherried, and 3 more were subbed shortly after - does it really matter? I don't lie, and I don't put myself on a pedestal. The crux of all this is that you misunderstood my original post, and consequently I misunderstood your response - I thought it was an attack on my work - whilst I can shoulder that, it didnt sit right with the general flow of ABC to me, and it just bugged me. For that misunderstanding , I apologise. As for Auntie Jackies constant irrelevant attacks, grow UP woman. As a granny, you surely should know better by your age. Antoinette - pretty name. I too hated mine, as a child, now its ok I guess - but its not a nom de keyboard. Oh dear, I seem to have done it again. Poor old Spellcheck just doesn't get to see the funny side of anything! I'm quite sure that Stormy Petrel knew what I meant but for the benefit of those that don't understand I was offering a humourous comment on his last comment (in brackets). I have known what a stormy petrel is ever since I joined the merchant navy in 1966 and probably for a good few years before that! I wouldn't be so silly as to insult anyone's intelligence and if anyone has made a fool of themself it's you, but I can keep a secret I won't tell a soul. By the way, I have never claimed to be a 'writer', I'm just another poor human trying to get through life and bring a smile to as many people's faces as possible. You are obviously not one of my success stories.

Where's your moderator anyway? I'm a host at BBS Inkspot - we were orphans of Inkspot, as you probably know - on my forum, when a cat fight likes this breaks out, I use my delete powers. I'm also the host of my own Wild City Writers' Workshop - no, that's not a plug - but I'll tell you something - if a catfight like this broke on my forum, that would be the end of the posting. Do not realize that publishers actually read these things? When we send our work out and say - oh, and I'm a frequent contributor at blahblahblah.com - some of the publishers click in to see what we do at the online contents. If it so happened a publisher, that you were hoping might take you seriously, decided to click into the forums and saw you there contributing to such a ridiculous argument, you'd lose integrity - don't you think? Also, I'd like to point out that there are other entries here - I see where some folks only have one or two responses to their postings - if you people have all this energy why not make some of the other posters feel welcome. Well I for one wouldn't like to see any damn moderators or any kind of censorship here, one of the good things about ABC is the freedom it gives contributors to say more or less what they want and get things off their chests. In fact dare I say, it is the best therapy I've ever come across!

Yeah, Richard - it was me that started the thread and that's what it was about - our rights with our work. Well, I've kind of gone down the middle of the road with that ... what I do on online content is slant my work for the particular site I'm writing for. Most things I post on online are things I'm not going to send elsewhere - but I wondered about it - I only have one thing posted here - one of my crypted quotes with a little about the writing - but if I wanted to use it again, I'd like to think I can. No, as a lawyer and writer, I am perhaps in a position to help. The terms are only exclusive if ABCtales makes a payment to you. Otherwise, it is just a licence that enables them to place the material on the site or publish it. in print, once in print they must offer some form of payment. Once in print, it cannot appear anywhere else for a year. Until you are offered a payment, the work can be placed elsewhere, so you need to decide if ever offered payment whether you are happy to have an exclusive arrangement. Hope this helps. How much do you get paid if you DO get published? I could do with a little pocket money.

If your work is picked up for the magazine, you get £25 for a poem or £50 for a short story. We're also planning anthologies for the future, although rates haven't been set yet for these. And we have an in-house literary agency looking out for the very best authors to present to publishers, so you could get publishing deal (we take a commission if our agency gets you a deal but nothing silly - not entirely sure how much it is cos that's not the area of the company I work in) Hope this helps Cheers Emily

Hmmmmm Im a little perturbed by these terms and conditions. The Leo in me just bangs off stuff all over the place. As a published writer, there is no WAY that ABC will be printing my stuff and holding the rights for a year.....I simply placed stuff on here for further recognition, on the basis that getting the stuff *out there* in whatever form is just great publicity. Having had every bit of my work cherry picked, and on occasions being poet of the day, and also of this weekend, l was chuffed....but...Hmmmm!!! Off to investigate further. I have indeed read Antoinettes work, however what l feel about it is irrelevant, and good manners preclude me from posting my thoughts. That and the fact that ld never slight another poet. The world needs more poetry, in whichever style. Antoinettes' is different from mine, and thats good. Everybody has varying tastes, and hurrah to that.
